The xylem is composed of four different types of cells named as tracheids, vessels, xylem parenchyma, and xylem fibers. Tracheids and vessels primarily perform the function of transport of water and mineral nutrients. Xylem parenchyma serves for the storage of substances. Xylem fibers provide strength to the plants.

The another type of tissue called phloem transports food prepared by the leaves to the stem, roots, and other parts of plants. The phloem is composed of four different types of cells named as sieve tube element, companion cells, phloem parenchyma, and phloem fibers. Sieve tube element transports food and nutrients. Companion cells provide protein and assist sieve tube element. The food remain stored in phloem parenchyma. Phloem fibers provide strength to the plants.

From the above explanation, it can be concluded that sieve tube, companion cells, and phloem fibers are the components of food conducting tissue called phloem, whereas tracheid is one of the four cells of water conducting tissue called xylem.
