Almost all the coal reserves of the country are found in south Indian rocks belonging to the Gondwana age. Lignite's major part, about ninety percent is found in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, and its surrounding regions. Some oil refineries are in Jalandhar, Kanpur, Mathura, Koyali, Trombay, Baruni, Guwahati, Digboi, Haldia, Vishakhapatnam, Chennai, and Patnam.
