The vascular plants are those plants that have specialised structures for transportation of water, minerals and organic nutrients called vascular or conductive tissue. These tissues include xylem and phloem. Hence, these plants produce a well-developed root system, shoot system and vascular system.

Pteridophytes are primitive vascular plants. Gymnosperms and angiosperms are also included in this category.

Root: The roots of these plants are prominent that help to fix the plant in the soil and also absorb water and minerals from the soil.

Shoot: It is the plant part above the ground that bears leaves. It conducts water and minerals to the leaves from the roots.
Vascular tissues: Xylem and phloem are the tissues that constitute the vascular tissue. These are present in roots, stem and leaves. The xylem conduct water and minerals from the root to the leaves for photosynthesis. Phloem helps in the transportation of organic nutrients from the leaves to various parts of the plant. The arrangement and nature of vascular tissues are different in different plants.
