Mirrors can be broadly classified into two types - plane or curved. Curved mirrors have a curved reflecting surface. Curved or spherical mirrors are of two types-convex and concave. These mirrors have diverse use in our daily life. Convex mirrors are also called diverging mirrors whereas the concave ones are also referred to as converging mirrors. In headlamps, spotlights, torches and headlights of cars we use concave mirrors. These mirrors are also used in reflecting telescopes and in devices using solar power. Convex mirrors forms virtual images which are smaller in size than the object. They are used as rear-view mirrors in cars. They are used in long hallways of schools, hospitals, hotels and stores and are referred to as 'hallway safety mirrors'. Do you know which mirror is used to correctly aim the camera while capturing a self-portrait? It is a convex mirror.
