RRB Group D 2018 – About
The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts the RRB Group D exam to fill up the vacancies for Group D posts in Indian Railways. This is a Central Government job and hence, is highly demanding. The RRB Group D 2018 notification has announced 62,907 vacancies for different posts that come under RRB Group D. Although the number of vacancies is very high, getting selected is not going to be easy. With lakhs of candidates appearing for the exam, the RRB Grade D exam is going to be highly competitive and only the best candidates who have been preparing seriously will get selected.
The RRB Group D exam has two main stages: Computer Based Test (CBT) and Physical Efficiency Test (PET). The first stage of RRB Group D exam 2018 is going to start on 17th September 2018. |Nationality/Citizenship||Candidates must be either:
1. a citizen of India, or
2. a subject of Nepal, or
3. a subject of Bhutan, or
4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India, before the 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
5. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favor a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.
|Age Limit||The minimum age of the candidate should be 18 years (as on 1st July 2018).
The upper age limit is 31 years for General category candidates (as on 1st July 2018).
For reserved categories, there is relaxation of upper age limit as follows:
1. SC / ST – 5 years
2. OBC – NCL – 3 years
3. Ex-Servicemen who have put in not less than six months continuous service after attestation – Up to the extent of service rendered in Defence plus 3 years
4. PwD – UR – 10 years
5. PwD – OBC (NCL) – 13 years
6. PWD – SC/ST – 15 years
|Educational Qualification||Candidates should be
1. 10th Passed and/or National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT
2. 10th Passed and/or ITI from institutions recognised by NCVT/SCVT
RRB Group D 2018: Railway Group D Salary
Railway Group D employees will get an initial pay of ₹18000/ (level 01 of 7th CPC Pay Matrix). There are other additional allowances as well.
RRB Group D 2018: RRB Group D Application Form
The RRB Group D application form is to be filled up online on the official RRB website. The steps to apply for the exam are as under:
- Step 1: Go to the RRB official website of the RRB region you want to apply for.
- Step 2: Click on the link provide for “Railway Group D Recruitment Notification CEN 02/2018”.
- Step 3: Read the instructions carefully and click on “Apply Online”.
- Step 4: Click on “New Registration” if you haven’t registered already. Fill up all the required details – personal, academic, and contact details – in the respective fields.
- Step 5: Upload scanned images of the following documents in the necessary format and size:
1. Color photograph of the candidate in JPEG format of size between 20 to 50 kb.
2. Category (SC/ST) Certificate (applicable for candidates seeking free travel pass) in JPEG format of size between 50 to 100 kb
3. Color photograph of Scribe (if applicable) in JPEG format of size between 20 to 50kb
- Step 5: Make payment of the application form fee.
- Step 6: Submit you RRB Group D application form.
- Step 7: Take print out of your RRB Group D online application form for future reference.

RRB Group D 2018: RRB Group D Exam Pattern
The selection process of RRB Group D candidates involves the following stages:
- Stage 1: RRB Group D Computer Based Test (CBT)

RRB Group D Exam Pattern For CBT
The CBT has four sections. The number of questions asked in each of these sections are tabulated below:

The total time duration for the CBT is 90 minutes.
There is penalty for incorrect answer in RRB Group D exam. 1/3rd of the marks allotted for each question will be deducted for incorrect answer.
RRB Group D Physical Efficiency Test
The RRB Group D PET is just qualifying in nature. This means candidates will just have to clear this round and the marks won’t be considered for final selection of candidates. The PET is different for male and female candidates.

For PwD candidates, there is no Physical Efficiency Test. However, there are certain medical standards that they should meet, for which medical examination will be conducted for them.

RRB Group D 2018: RRB Group D Preparation
RRB Group D preparation needs a smart and methodical approach. Once you are thorough with the RRB Group D exam pattern and syllabus, you need to create a proper timetable based on your needs, convenience, strengths and weaknesses. You have to allocate separate time slots for each of the section. More time should be spent on sections that you find difficult.
RRB Group D Preparation For Mathematics
This section needs one to memorize a huge number of formulas which might seem difficult. But with regular practice of formulas and numericals, it is absolutely possible to memorize them and master all the topics. Make sure you have the concepts clear, otherwise you might not identify the various questions asked.
Many students find the Mathematics section difficult, but if you practice sufficient number of questions, your problem solving abilities will improve.
Do not try to memorize the various shortcuts and tricks directly. Solve sufficient number of questions first.
RRB Group D Preparation For General Intelligence & Reasoning
This section needs application of theoretical knowledge, common sense as well as analytical and critical thinking. This might sound like a lot of work but it is absolutely possible to master this section. Understand the theory behind various concepts, then try to understand the steps involved to approach and solve problems. Go through example problems to get an idea and practice them. Keep track of the time you spend to solve questions and improve your time management.
RRB Group D Preparation For General Science
For this section, you need to finish the NCERT Class 9 and 10 Science textbooks thoroughly. Here again, you must have a clear understanding of the concepts. Also, the various formulas, scientific names, simple equations, and other details should be at your fingertips so that you don’t have to think much to answer questions. Although this section covers a large number of topics, it is a easy and scoring section.
RRB Group D Preparation For General Awareness On Current Affairs
For this section, read newspapers and current affairs magazines published for government job exams on a regular basis. Focus mostly on the events and issues from last six months. Make notes as you study and revise them on a regular basis as you need to memorize a lot of information for this section.
Solve sufficient number of questions in a time-bound manner for each of the sections. Also, take RRB Group D mock tests and previous year papers.
RRB Group D 2018: RRB Group D Mock Test
The RRB will conduct mock test for candidates to get an idea about the pattern of the exam and the difficulty level. The mock test can be taken online from any computer system or mobile phone with internet connectivity. The link to take mock tests will be made available on the RRB official website on 10th September.

RRB Group D 2018: RRB Group D Admit Card
RRB Group D admit card will be released only in the online mode, on the official RRB website and no hard copy of it will be sent to the candidate via post. Candidates will be able to download their admit card four days before the day of their exam. Details regarding the exam date, shift and city will be informed to the candidate on 9th September 2018. Based on that, candidates will get to know when their admit card will be made available for download.
Candidates will have to login to their account using their Registration Number and Date of Birth in order to download the RRB Group D admit card.
RRB Group D 2018: RRB Group D Result
RRB Group D result will be declared separately for each stage of the exam. The RRB Group D result for CBT will be declared after the CBT is conducted. Candidates will have to login to their account with the necessary credentials in order to check their result. Candidates who clear the RRB Group D qualifying marks for the CBT will be called for Physical Efficiency Test. Candidates who clear the PET will then be called for document verification and will be recruited based on the marks secured by them in the CBT.
