The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary & Higher Secondary Education, Pune, is the state education board established in 1965 under the provisions of the Maharashtra Act 41. The board conducts the HSC and SSC examinations in the state and is responsible for regulating and overseeing education for primary and secondary classes as well. There are around 28000 schools in the state to impart education to the students residing there.

The board also prepares the syllabus and curriculum for all the classes, sets the exam dates and result dates for board examinations, and prescribes textbooks that students should follow. The school-level exams for classes 1-9 and 11 are conducted adhering to the timeframe and guidelines set by the board. The schools affiliated with the board adhere to the guidelines and follow the changes and instructions authorised by the board.
