About Exam

The Council of Indian School Certificate Examination (ICSE) prescribes the exam pattern and syllabus for Class 8. As per the ICSE rules, every school evaluates students’ performances and improvement through Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) that involves Formative and Summative Assessments. 

The ICSE Class 8 exam pattern consists of the marking scheme, duration, and different questions asked in the exam. Mathematics, Science, and Social Science are the primary subjects for Class 8 ICSE students. Apart from that, two language subjects are available. One is English, and for the second, students can choose from Hindi, Sanskrit, Regional Language, or Foreign Language options.

ICSE Class 8 Exam Summary

According to the New Education Policy of 1986, English is used as the medium of teaching in India in all ICSE schools. Only students from ICSE-affiliated institutions (CISCE-affiliated schools) can take the ICSE exam.

Students need to study six subjects, one of which must be English and one must be a second language, according to the ICSE exam structure. Students must obtain pass scores in at least five ICSE examination papers to pass the exam. The passing score for each subject is 35% of the total score. According to the ICSE rules, every school evaluates students’ performances and improvement through Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) through Formative and Summative Assessments. Below we have provided the detailed ICSE Class 8 scoring pattern:

  • Formative Assessment: Formative assessment is based on student participation in quizzes, interviews, visual testing, assignments, practicals, oral testing, projects, puzzles, and group activities, among other things.
  • Summative Assessment: The school leadership decides on a half-yearly assessment schedule, which is rigorously adhered to the ICSE criteria. In summative assessment, students are assessed using the ICSE Class 8 curriculum.
  • Co-scholastic Areas: Attitude toward school, teachers, peer group, values, aesthetic skills like dance, music, drawing, health and Physical Education, achievement in co-curricular activities and participation in competitions are assessed in co-scholastic areas.

To appear for the ICSE Class 8 exams, students must enrol in a school affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) Board. They must meet the required attendance percentage in the current academic year and pay any outstanding debts. 

Students must also fill out an application form and submit it along with the required documents to the institution. Students must pay the exam fees before the deadline. Students whose applications are accepted by the Board will be given admission cards for the ICSE Class 8 exams.
