The Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (BOSSE), Sikkim, is the official authority for imparting education among the students studying in schools affiliated with it. It is an open schooling board with the aim to meet the various academic requirements of varied groups of students.

The Board provides education up to pre-degree level, including secondary/senior secondary, skill and vocational-level education. BOSSE, Sikkim, was established by the Sikkim Legislative Assembly under Act No. 14, according to the Sikkim Act 2020, to promulgate and extend education at the state level.

BOSSE holds the Equivalence by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) for higher education and employment. BOSSE has also been recognised by the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), Ministry of Education, Government of India, as an open schooling Board.

The Board of Open Schooling and Skill Education (BOSSE) has the core objective to uplift and strengthen open schooling education. The BOSSE grading system provides the categorisation of grades and remarks that students will secure depending on the total marks scored by them in their respective class final examination. The marking scheme for board and non-board exams vary from one another. In the sections ahead, we have provided the grading system for BOSSE, Sikkim.

BOSSE Grading System for Primary Classes

Students studying in BOSSE primary classes are awarded grades depending on the marks percentage secured by them in the final exam. The BOSSE grading system is categorised into grades A, B,  C, and D. As per the marks scored by a student, respective grades and remarks are given in the marksheet. Students should pay attention to classroom studies and revise the topics every day to score excellent marks in the final examination. The BOSSE grading system for primary classes is given below:

BOSSE Secondary School Grading System

The BOSSE Sikkim secondary school grading system includes grades allocated to students based on the marks scored by them in the final exam. In the table below, we have mentioned the marks- percentage-wise bifurcation, according to which the grade and grade points are given to students.

Apart from CBSE, several state education boards prescribe the NCERT curriculum for their school-level education. The NCERT textbooks are prepared by subject specialists according to the educational guidelines of the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. The curriculum is also upgraded and made more relevant to consolidate the updates that hold importance in scientific, mathematical and other areas.

The most effective way to excel in any exam is to know everything related to it, like the paper pattern, exam timing, section-wise marking scheme, types of questions asked, etc. Thus, students can know an exam inside out and perform well in it. Students in BOSSE board classes 10 and 12 should solve the previous years’ question papers for all the subjects without fail. They get to solve a large number of questions and find out the topics on which questions are most frequently asked in the exam.

In BOSSE Sikkim Board secondary and senior secondary class board exams, practical exams carry nearly 20% of the total marks for the subject. The BOSSE practical exams are conducted nearly a month before the beginning of the theory exam. Students must clear the practical exam as well. They can even score full marks in the practical exam and ultimately improve their subject aggregate score. The marks obtained in the practical exam are added to the marks scored in the final examination.  It must be noted that practical exams are only for Science subjects. Students should know their list of practicals for the individual subjects and prepare for them well in advance to remove any doubt.

The BOSSE Sikkim compartmental exams are the exams which students have to take if they fail one or more subjects in the regular board exams. BOSSE compartment exams are held for board classes 10 and 12 only. Students who fail the Sikkim Board Class 10 or 12 regular exams can reappear for the exam and clear it. They can obtain admission to the next class only if they clear the exam. To sit for the compartment examination, students need to register for it. The registration forms are released by the Board, and students can submit them with the help of their school administration. The exam is generally held two months after the announcement of the regular exam results. Students who fail the compartmental exams also need to retake the regular exam in the next academic session.

• Sikkim Edutech App: This mobile app connects all the schools under the Sikkim state education department. It is a platform for teachers to plan their online classes and provide audio lectures and PowerPoint presentations to explain the chapter concepts.
• Samvaad TV: It provides video lessons for the students of classes 5 to 8 for Mathematics and Science subjects. The videos are prepared daily and are broadcast every day from 6 PM to 7 PM.
