About Exam

The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council conducts the Higher Secondary examination for Class 12 students every year. Students must have a minimum of 75% attendance in their classes to be eligible for AHSEC Class 12 exams. Assam Board-affiliated schools will conduct Class 12 exams from March 2024. In 2022, approximately, 2.4 lakh students appeared for the AHSEC exam.

Assam Board Class 12 Application Process 2024

Exam Pattern

Students in Class 12 at an AHSEC-affiliated institution can obtain the examination form from their respective schools. They must pay the required examination fee as directed by the school administration and submit the completed form along with the required documents to the school. 

Students whose applications are accepted will be issued Assam AHSEC admit cards by the board. The application process is conducted in offline mode. Furthermore, students have to pay Rs. 200 during the application process.

Assam Board Class 12 Exam Pattern Details – Scoring Pattern (+/- Marking)

This year’s Assam Board HS exam pattern will change significantly. The exam duration and number of exams are both likely to decrease. The Board will issue a detailed notification about this change soon. 

The maximum mark for each subject is 100. The theoretical section accounts for 70 marks out of 100, while the practical section holds 30 marks. The final marks will be calculated by adding the marks obtained by the student in both parts.

Below listed are some important points regarding the exam pattern:

  • The passing marks for subjects having no practical exams are 30% of the total marks.
  • Besides, the qualifying marks for a subject having practical exams are 30% for the theory and 40% for the practicals.
  • Students need to qualify both the theory and practical parts separately to pass Assam Class 12 exams 2024.

Section A (10 Marks)- Reading Unseen Passage 

Reading unseen prose passages for comprehension. The total length of the passage will be between 500-800 words. The passages may be one of the following:

  • Factual Passages, e.g. instructions, descriptions, and reports. 
  • Discursive passage involving opinion, e.g. argumentative. Persuasive or interpretative text. 
  • Literary passage, e.g. extract from fiction, drama, poetry, essay or biography.

Section B- Advanced Writing Skills (25 Marks)

  • One out of two short compositions of not more than 50 words each,e.g. advertisement and notices, designing or drafting posters, writing formal and informal invitations and replies. 05 Marks
  • A report or a factual description based on verbal input provided (one out of two) (100-125 words) 10 Marks

List of Experiments

  • To observe the variation of potential difference (V) across a given resistor by changing the current (I) through it. Draw an I-V graph and find the value of the given resistance from the graph.
  • To find the value of a given resistance by using a metre bridge.
  •  Construct a potential divider with the help of a rheostat and a battery (or cell) and use it to verify Ohm’s Law.
  • To determine the internal resistance of a given primary cell using the potentiometer.
  • To locate the poles of a long bar magnet and to find the ratio of magnetic to geometric length.
  • Place a bar magnet in the magnetic meridian and draw the field lines with its
    (i)North-pole pointing towards the geographical north pointing.
    (ii)The South pole is pointing towards the geographical north on one side of the magnet and to locate the position of the neutral point.

Assam Board Class 12 Chemistry Practicals

Total Marks- 30

Microchemical methods are available for several practical experiments wherever possible such techniques should be used.

  • Surface Chemistry
    (a) Preparation of one lyophilic and one lyophobic sol.
    Lyophilic sol: starch, egg albumin and gum.
    Lyophobic sol: aluminium hydroxide, ferric hydroxide, arsenious sulphide.
    (b) Dialysis of sol prepared in (a) above.
    (c) Study of the role of an emulsifying agent in stabilising the emulsions of different oils.
  • Chemical Kinetics
    (a) Effect of concentration and temperature on the reaction rate between sodium thiosulphate and hydrochloric acid.
    (b) Study of reaction rates of any one of the following :
    (i) Reaction of iodide ions with hydrogen peroxide at room temperature using different concentrations of iodide ions.
    (ii) Reaction between potassium iodate (KIO3) and sodium sulphite (Na2SO3) using starch solution as an indicator (clock reaction).
  • Thermochemistry Any one of the following experiments:
    (a) Enthalpy of dissolution of copper sulphate or potassium nitrate.
    (b) Enthalpy of neutralisation of strong acid (HCl) and strong base (NaOH).
    (c) Determination of enthalpy change during interaction (Hydrogen bond formation) between acetone and chloroform.
  • Electrochemistry Variation of cell potential in Zn/Zn2+/Cu2+/Cu with change in concentration of electrolytes (CuSO4or ZnSO4) at room temperature.
  • Chromatography
    (a) Separation of pigments from extracts of leaves and flowers by paper chromatography and determination of Rf values.
    (b) Separation of constituents present in an inorganic mixture containing two cations only (constituents having a wide difference in Rf values to be provided)

  • Study of the reproductive parts of different flowers.
  • Study of flowers adapted to pollination by different agencies (wind, insect).
  • Study of the percentage of pollen germination on a slide.
  • To study pollen tube growth on the stigma.

  • To study mitosis in onion root tips (preparation).

  • Prepare pedigree charts for genetic traits such as tongue rolling, blood groups, window’s peak, colour blindness.
  • To identify common ‘disease causing organisms’ like Ascaris, Entamoeba, Plasmodium, Microsporum. Comment on the symptoms of the disease that they cause.
  • Collect and study soil from different sites and study them for texture and moisture content.

Assam Board Class 12 Admit Card 2024

The Assam Board 12th admit card for the academic year 2023-24 will be available in the second week of January 2024. Candidates must go to their school to pick up their admit cards. Students must verify that the school authority has duly attested the admit card. 

In the event of an error on the admit card, candidates must immediately notify the school authorities. Students are requested to carry their Class 10 admit cards with them while entering the examination hall. Students without an admit card will not be allowed to appear for the exams. 

Assam Board 12th compartment admit card 2023-24 will be available online on the higher secondary official website. Candidates who fail no more than three subjects will be eligible to take the compartment exam. The compartment exam pattern and syllabus will be identical to the regular board examination.
