The position of Guards (both of goods trains and passenger trains) is a critical-level post demanding deep knowledge of train movement, commercial rates of freight and several other aspects (even knowledge of flares and explosives). Therefore, Guards have to undergo training for 45 days before taking independent charge. Training is conducted at the Zonal Training School of every Zonal Railway.
