CBSE Class 10 English Marking Scheme

The latest marking scheme for the CBSE 10th English is provided below:

  • The paper is divided into three sections: Section A: Reading Skills, Section B: Grammar and Writing, and Section C: Literature.
  • Section A is of 20 marks. This section contains two passages of ten marks each. Each passage requires students to answer ten short questions (1 mark each).
  • Section B contains 13 grammar questions, of which students must attempt any ten. The section also includes questions on creative writing skills – letter and paragraph writing – with a total score of 10 for this section (students need to attempt two questions).
  • The total number of marks in section C is 40. It has ten-mark questions based on extracts (in the form of 1-mark sub-questions). The section also includes four 3-mark questions to be answered in 40-50 words each. In these questions, there is an option for internal choice.
  • Students must answer two of three 3-mark questions in approximately 40-50 words each.
  • Students must also answer two 6-mark questions in approximately 100-120 words.
