Celebrity Engineers 2

img-icon

We are back with the second part of Celebrity Engineers! After getting a kickass response from our first post, here’s the latest part 2 of the series and something to feel proud about your engineering mysqladmins. This time we bring to you, Tom Scholz and Bill Nye. A musician and a scientist. If Tom is that badass multi-tasker of a Musician, Bill is that popular beloved Scientist who ruled the small screen for the longest time. If one has built charities, then the other one is noted for nurturing young minds. But you know what? Even though they come from different backgrounds, they both never failed to inspire millions. Let’s know more about these two awesome peeps.

So let’s start with Tom Scholz.

A musician, inventor, engineer and a philanthropist, Donald Thomas “Tom” Scholz was born on March 10, 1947. This American rock musician is known for being “a notoriously ‘un-rock n’ roll,’”  soul. Which means that he never truly cared for attention. A true rock star, he would rather concentrate on his music. He is the one-man army when it comes to his band that he named Boston where he was the guitarist, keyboardist, songwriter, and a producer. The band achieved their most notable successes during the 1970s and 1980s. Before his music career, Tom received a bachelor’s degree (1969) and a master’s degree (1970) in Mechanical Engineering from the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Pretty cool right? Also, he then went on to work with Polaroid Corporation as a senior product design engineer. His engineering journey started way earlier, though, and that was when was a kid where he used to tinker with buildings and designing stuff. Now at 68 years, he spends his time in charities and playing music. So it is safe to say that this engineer is a born rock star! \m/

Bill Nye, The Science Guy

bill

Take a deep breath before we introduce you to this cool guy because his work profile is longer than a metro train. So here it begins, Bill is an American science educator, comedian, television host, actor, writer, scientist, and a former mechanical engineer. Whew! Born on November 27, 1955, he is best known for his popular television program, “Bill Nye, The Science Guy.’’  This popular show has won in total 19 Emmy Awards, in its five series that it ran. Nye began his interesting career in Seattle at Boeing, where he was trained in films and developed a hydraulic pressure resonance suppressor for the 747. He did all at around the same time. Bill later went on to work as a consultant in the aeronautics industry. You would think that a guy like this may never have experienced rejection, right? But no. He has actually been rejected by NASA. Bill wanted to become an astronaut so bad that every few years, he would apply to NASA but would always get rejected. So there is a lesson to learn, this genius of a guy who is responsible for inspiring a whole generation of children was rejected by NASA. So remember, getting rejected is just a stepping stone to success and Bill’s life says it with élan!

So that’s it, folks, we will be back soon. If you like what you see, then why don’t you say so? Say hi in comments and share your thoughts. We would love to hear from you 🙂
