GATE 2022: IIT Kharagpur has started the online registration for GATE 2022. The candidates need to visit the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) at the gate.iitkgp.ac.in to register and fill the GATE application form. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level engineering examination conducted once a year by IISc Bangalore and seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Roorkee) on a rotational basis. The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP) will conduct the GATE 2022 examination this year.
The conducting body has released the official notification for GATE 2022 in August 2021. According to the official report, GATE 2022 will be conducted on February 05, 06, 12, & 13, 2022. This year, the Graduate Engineering Aptitude Test will be organised for 29 papers in a computer-based mode. Two papers were introduced last year to make the subject count to 27 papers. IIT Kharagpur has released the GATE 2022 Syllabus for all subjects on the official website. Some additions have been made, and new subjects have been included in GATE 2022 Syllabus PDF. GATE Application Process 2022
IIT Kharagpur has started the GATE Registration Form 2022 online. The registration window is open till September 24, 2021. So, applicants can submit the GATE registration form on or before the last date of the application form. There is no offline submission mode for the GATE application form. Hence, applicants have to fill and submit the form online only. The registration process is to be carried out through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).
The candidates must fill in details such as the candidate’s name, email ID, mobile number, etc. In the GATE 2022 Application Form, the test givers also must fill in their personal and academic details besides uploading scanned copies of photographs, signatures and other certificates. The candidates need to pay the GATE Application Fee to complete the registration process.
GATE Exam Pattern 2022
IIT Kharagpur has released the GATE Exam Pattern for the 2022 session along with the information brochure. The candidates can check the GATE Exam Pattern to know what questions will be asked in the exam, exam duration, several questions, marking schemes and much more. For all papers of the GATE 2022 exam, there will be a total of 65 questions having 100 marks, out of which there will be 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks as in GA (General Aptitude).
For the specific paper codes (AE, AG, BT, CH, CE, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MT, MN, PI, TF and XE), the GA and Maths will carry around 28% of the total marks. According to the Exam Pattern, the GA section will carry 15% of the total marks, while 72% belong to the subject paper. While for the paper codes – AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH, XL, the GA section will carry 15%, and the remaining 85% of the total marks will be from the subject paper.
What’s New in GATE 2022: Check it Out
As we know, IIT Kharagpur is going to start the GATE Registration Process on August 30th. But before that, the candidates who want to apply for it need to have proper knowledge about this year’s GATE Examination changes such as what’s been newly added, what changes candidates will face and what precautionary steps candidates need to take while applying for the examination. Let’s take a look –
- IIT Kharagpur has added 2 new subjects for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2022. These 2 new subjects papers are Geomatics Engineering and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
- Those candidates who are appearing for 1 or 2 papers need to fill only ONE application form. More than one form will be rejected.
- The candidates who are appearing for multiple papers will have to submit the separate GATE Application Form fee for each paper.
- Though some of the papers will be held in multiple sessions, candidates are allowed to appear in only one session for the applied paper.
GATE Papers 2022
IIT Kharagpur will conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2022 for 29 subjects (papers). The following table shows the list of papers and paper codes for GATE 2022. GATE 2022 Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility criteria are the prerequisite to apply for an examination. Meeting the eligibility criteria is the first step towards online registration. The Indian Institute of Kharagpur (IIT KGP) has released the eligibility criteria for GATE 2022 applicants. Candidates need to fulfil the GATE eligibility criteria to proceed with the GATE registration process.
Nationality – Candidates of any nationality can apply for GATE 2022, subject to the other eligibility conditions for the postgraduate engineering exam. This means both Indian and international students can apply for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.
Age Criteria – Candidates, irrespective of their age, can register and apply for GATE 2022 as there is no age limit to appear for the postgraduate engineering exam.
Educational Qualification – Candidates in the third or the higher years of undergraduate degree programmes can apply for GATE 2022. Further, those who already have a graduation degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts. GATE 2022 Application Form Correction
IIT Kharagpur will open the GATE 2022 Application Form Correction Facility for the students online for a specified period of time. This is to provide a chance for applicants to edit / change/update any information in the GATE 2022 Application Form. Hence, applicants should utilize this opportunity to make corrections in their application form. The candidates will be able to make changes through the GATE 2022 Correction Link. All of the required correction in GATE Registration Form needs to be done by the candidates before the last date. However, applicants can make corrections in the paper, category, and examination centre by paying an extra charge. The exam conducting authorities will not accept any correction or changes after the closing date.
GATE Application Form Correction 2022 details will be announced officially by IIT Kharagpur on the official website. Till then, the candidates are advised to fill the form carefully and avoid any mistakes.

GATE 2022 Mock Test
IIT Kharagpur will soon release the GATE 2022 Mock Test on its official website, i.e. iitkgp.ac.in. The mock test is like dummy or practice tests of the actual GATE question paper. A mock test is a simulation of a real exam. GATE Mock Test will help students to do better preparation for the exam. This Online Mock Test 2022 will help the candidates get familiar with the GATE Exam Pattern and the type and format of the actual exam paper. The exam conducting authority will release the practical test for various subjects separately. The online practice test for the exam will be 3 hours long, and it will have the same format as the actual exam.
The candidates who want to brush up on their performance should always practice the mock test multiple times. It is always a good approach to solve the GATE Mock Test before going for the actual exam. It will prepare you to tackle different questions in an actual exam time-based environment.
GATE 2022 Question Papers
The pattern of Questions –
GATE 2022 contain questions of three different type of papers –
- MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) – It carries 1 or 2 marks each, in all the papers and sections. These are objective type questions which will have choices of 4, out of which only one is correct.
- Negative Marking for wrong answers.
- For 1 mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer while for 2 mark question, 2/3 mark will be deducted.
- MSQ (Multiple Select Questions) – It carries 1 or 2 marks each in all the papers and sections. There will be no negative marking for a wrong answer in MSQ Types.
- NAT (Numerical Answer Type) – It usually carries 1 or 2 marks each in most of the papers and sections. For such types of questions, the answer is usually a real number, which needs to be filled by the candidate using a virtual calculator.
Marks Distribution –
There will be 65 questions carrying 100 marks, out of which 10 questions carrying 15 marks will be GA, and the rest will be from the subject.
- For paper code AE,AG,BM,BT,CE,CH,CS,EC,EE,ES,GE,IN,ME,MN,MT,NM,PE,PI,TF & XE – Engineering Mathematics will carry around 15% of the total marks and the remaining around 70% of the total marks belonging to subject.
- For the paper code AR,CY,EY,GG,MA,PH,ST,XH and XL, the aptitude section will have 15% of the total marks while 85% of the total marks is devoted to the subject.
Design of Questions –
- Recall – These are based on facts, formulae, principle or laws in the discipline of the paper. The candidates are expected to get answers either from their memory of the subject or at most from one line computation.
- Comprehension – Such kinds of questions will be helpful to evaluate the candidate’s understanding of the basic concepts of his field.
- Application – In this section, it is expected that candidates should apply their knowledge or use some logical reasoning.
- Analysis and Synthesis – Synthesis questions require the candidate to compare more than two pieces of info.

GATE 2022 Admit Card
IIT Kharagpur will release the GATE 2022 admit card on January 3, 2022. The admit card will be released on the official website in the online mode. Candidates make sure to download the hall ticket before the closing date. Only those candidates will download the GATE 2022 admit card, which has completed the registration form. To download the hall ticket, candidates need to use their login credentials. It is necessary to download the GATE 2022 admit card from the website and keep it safe for the next upcoming admission process. Without showing the GATE Admit Card, no candidate will be allowed to enter the exam hall.

GATE Answer Key
IIT Kharagpur will release the GATE Answer Key for the 2022 session on their official website. First, they release the provisional answer key within a week after the GATE Exam ends. As per the schedule, if the candidates want to object to the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Provisional answer key, they can do it. GATE Final Answer Key will be released with the result. IIT Kharagpur will make available the facility to raise objections against GATE Answer Key. The answer key will be released for the exam conducted on February 5,6,12, and 13th. The candidates will have to check the website and find the respective link of the question paper with their answer key. It will be available in PDF format so that you can download it. The aspirants who are objecting will have to pay 500/- as charge per objection.
GATE Response Sheet 2022
GATE Response sheet 2022 comprises the responses filed by the test-takers in their paper. The candidates can be able to predict their probable score by using their official GATE Answer key. Those candidates who appeared for the GATE 2022 Exam should download the GATE Response Sheet for their future reference. IIT Kharagpur will release the response sheet for GATE 2022 on their official website. The candidates will have to use their login credentials on the GOAPS portal to download the response sheet.
GATE Exam Result 2022
IIT Kharagpur will release the GATE 2022 result on March 17th. The result will be announced on the official website in the online mode only. The GATE Scorecard will be issued to the candidates right after the declaration of the GATE 2022 Result. GATE score will be valid for the next 3 years. However, only those candidates will get the GATE Scorecard, who have crossed the cutoff successfully. All they need to do is download the scorecard by using their login credentials. Your login credentials will be used for checking the GATE Result as well as the scorecard. The exam score will determine the shortlisted candidates’ list who will be eligible to get admission in MTech or join PSU.
GATE Scorecard 2022
The qualified candidates will be able to download the GATE 2022 Scorecard by login in through GOAPS. The GATE Scorecard will contain the details like obtained marks, AIR, candidate’s details and normalized score. Only those candidates who have secured equal or more than the cutoff marks of the GATE exam will be declared as qualified candidates. Only such candidates will get the GATE 2022 Scorecard. These candidates can apply for further admission and recruitment processes. The candidates are advised to keep the GATE Scorecard for future purposes. The validity of the GATE 2022 scorecard is three years for MTech admissions. However, this validity may not apply to the PSU jobs recruitment.
Use of GATE Scorecard 2022 In Employment
- Clearing GATE will help you to gain employment in Public Sector Undertaking aka PSUs.
- Various PSUs make recruitment through valid GATE scores.
- Although the exam is conducted for getting admission in Masters or Doctoral programmes in Technology, Engineering or Architecture with multiple Science streams.
- These PSUs will declare their own cutoff marks. After that, they will conduct GD and PI rounds for final selection. Some PSUs prefer to take their own entrance test also for such qualified candidates.

GATE 2022 Toppers
After declaring the GATE Result, IIT Kharagpur will officially announce the GATE Toppers List on the website. The candidate who will secure the highest marks in the Examination will be considered for the Topper of GATE. From here, the candidates will check the marks and topper list for all 29 subjects of GATE. Scoring a top rank might be a cup of tea for all, however going through the list of top rankers, students will get an idea of what a topper scores on a particular section. The topper list will be updated after the result declaration. The total number of qualified candidates will be out once the result is out. The list of GATE 2022 Toppers list along with rank will be declared for all 29 subjects.
GATE Cut off 2022
IIT Kharagpur will release the GATE Cutoff on the official website. The candidates can check the cutoff for GATE 2022 as per subject. The cutoff is the minimum qualifying percentage or marks a candidate should score to qualify for the GATE 2022. However, the cutoff marks play a vital role in the admission process. These marks are decided by various IITs each year. For every 29 subjects, a different GATE Cut off will be proclaimed. It varies from one subject to another. Aside from confirmations, applicants who score better grades than the GATE 2022 cut off are regularly selected for lucrative positions offered by various Public Sector Units. The scorecard will be given distinctly to those up-and-comers who score equivalent to or more than the passing cut off.
The candidates should know the difference between the GATE Qualifying Cutoff and Admission Cutoff.
GATE Admission Cutoff – The minimum marks candidates should score to get admission to the participating colleges. This cut off will be released by the participating institutes separately.
GATE Qualifying Cutoff – The minimum marks required by the test takers to qualify for the GATE Examination. It will be different for all the 29 subjects of GATE. GATE Cutoff 2022 will vary as per the category of the student. It will be released by the institute along with GATE Result 2022.
How to Prepare for the GATE Exam 2022?
To prepare for the GATE exam, the candidates must read the complete syllabus for the 2022 session. Although the category of students has been divided into three sections, first those who have just started the GATE preparation, second who have not begun the GATE Preparation and planning to start, and the third one are those who have almost completed the GATE 2022 Syllabus or are about to end. Preparation strategy varies from one category to another.
Preparation Strategy for those who have just started studying for GATE Exam –
- Pick up the important topics of the GATE Syllabus based on the weightage.
- It helps you to cover the maximum number of important topics within a minimum time span.
- The candidates who have just started preparing for the exam should aim to cover at least 60-70% syllabus.
- Solve at least 5 or 6 GATE Mock Tests before the final exam.
Preparation Strategy for those who have not started studying yet for GATE –
- First read the exam pattern and syllabus carefully.
- Make notes of the weightage and important topics.
- Make a timetable that covers at least 50% important topics of the GATE Syllabus.

GATE Counselling 2022
The candidates who qualify for the exam will have to apply for Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) for IIT Mtech admission and Centralised Counselling Mtech/MDes for NIT admission. The test givers will have to apply separately for CCMT and COAP counselling to get access. For IITs, the candidates will have to use them for individual institutes. Also, private and state universities conduct their counselling based on exam scores. Before allotment of seats, the institutes may conduct further written tests/interviews. The final seat allotment will be based on the candidate’s GATE 2022 Result, resulting in further written test/interview and verification of documents. The admission will be completed after the payment of the fee has been done. Only those candidates that have passed the examination successfully can take part in GATE Counselling.
GATE 2022 COAP
COAP is a common portal where IITs upload their admission to the GATE 2022 qualified candidates. The candidates must accept the admission offer through this portal also. Also, COAP is that important platform where PSUs upload their job offers for qualified students. The candidates must apply separately to the participating institutes. COAP acts as the common platform used by the institutes to upload their offers.

PSU Recruitment through GATE 2022
PSU is the Public Sector Undertaking which is the government-owned companies or corporations. They usually offer employment based on GATE Exam Scores. The recruitment details for various posts inside PSU will be released separately for each one of them. Usually, most of the application process for PSU recruitment through GATE 2022 scores starts with the release of the Hall Ticket for the exam. Some PSUs may also conduct the entrance test, group discussion, and interviews separately to give students admission opportunities.
