GATE 2022: Application Correction, Dates, Syllabus, Pattern

GATE 2022 Application Correction Window has been started. The candidates can edit the application form till November 12. Read this article to know more details on GATE Exam, eligibility criteria, syllabus etc.

GATE 2022: IIT Kharagpur has removed Sonepat, Panipat and Idukki from the GATE 2022 exam centres list. The candidates who have opted for these centres can choose the alternatives from the official website. IIT Kharagpur has released this information on their website. Such candidates do not need to pay any fees for making changes in the GATE 2022 exam centres. Also, Leh (Ladakh) has been added as a new exam city for the GATE 2022 exam.

IIT Kharagpur has also started the application correction facility for GATE 2022. The candidates need to visit the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) at the to edit the application form. The form correction facility is available till November 12, 2021. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering is a national-level engineering examination. IISc Bangalore and seven IITs (Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, and Roorkee) conduct the exam once a year on a rotational basis. The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT KGP) is conducting GATE 2022 this year.

The conducting body has released the official notification for GATE 2022 in August 2021. According to the official report, GATE 2022 will be conducted on February 05, 06, 12, & 13, 2022. This year, the Graduate Engineering Aptitude Test will be organised for 29 papers in a computer-based mode. Two papers were introduced last year to make the subject count to 27 papers. GATE Exam 2022 Latest Updates

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022 exam has been cancelled at the test centres of  Sonepat, Panipat and Idukki. Those candidates who have opted for these exam centres are requested to choose another one using the official website link. IIT Kharagpur has released the details regarding this change on their official website. Such candidates can choose the alternative GATE 2022 exam centres without paying any fees.

The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has started the application correction window on November 01, 2021. The form correction facility is available till November 12, 2021. Earlier, IIT Kharagpur extended the last date to submit the application form without paying any late fees. Now, the candidates can submit the registration form by September 30, 2021. The candidates who are studying in the last year or 3rd year of their graduation or those who have already cleared their degree are eligible to fill the GATE application form 2022.

To fill the registration form the candidates need to pay the registration fees of INR 1500/- for the unreserved category, while the candidates are belonging to the reserved or female category will have to pay the amount of 750/- as the application form fee. The applicants are advised to use or upload their passport size photographs, documents, signature in the given format during the registration process.

If the status of your registration form is showing as under scrutiny then you do not need to worry about it. During this time the scrutiny team processes the application form for GATE. Make sure you provide the details correctly while filling the application form. Only those applicants will be contacted by message or email whose application needs to be corrected like changes in documents, signature or in photographs.

GATE Exam Syllabus 2022

IIT Kharagpur has released the GATE 2022 Syllabus for all subjects on the official website. Some additions have been made, and new subjects have been included in GATE 2022 Syllabus PDF. With the help of the GATE Syllabus, the candidates can find out the chapters/topics that require more time and effort to prepare for GATE 2022. GATE exam syllabus helps students in proper planning for the preparation of exams. Candidates must check the GATE 2022 syllabus and exam pattern from here. GATE Application Process 2022

Indian Institute of Technology has released the GATE application form online. The candidates can fill the application form till September 28, 2021. The candidates are advised to fill the registration form before the closing date. The candidates need to submit the application form in online mode only. The GATE registration process is to be carried out through the GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System). In the application form, the candidate needs to fill in their name, contact number, valid email ID etc. Apart from that, the applicants will have to upload the required documents such as photographs, signatures and certificates. After that make the final submission by paying the application form fee.

GATE Exam Pattern 2022

IIT Kharagpur has released the GATE Exam Pattern for the 2022 session along with the information brochure. The candidates can check the GATE Exam Pattern to know what questions will be asked in the exam, exam duration, several questions, marking schemes and much more. For all papers of the GATE 2022 exam, there will be a total of 65 questions having 100 marks, out of which there will be 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks as in GA (General Aptitude). 

For the specific paper codes (AE, AG, BT, CH, CE, CS, EC, EE, IN, ME, MT, MN, PI, TF and XE), the GA and Maths will carry around 28% of the total marks. According to the Exam Pattern, the GA section will carry 15% of the total marks, while 72% belong to the subject paper. While for the paper codes – AR, CY, EY, GG, MA, PH, XH, XL, the GA section will carry 15%, and the remaining 85% of the total marks will be from the subject paper.

What’s New in GATE 2022: Check it Out

As we know, IIT Kharagpur is going to start the GATE Registration Process on August 30th. But before that, the candidates who want to apply for it need to have proper knowledge about this year’s GATE Examination changes such as what’s been newly added, what changes candidates will face and what precautionary steps candidates need to take while applying for the examination. Let’s take a look – 

  1. IIT Kharagpur has added 2 new subjects for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2022. These 2 new subjects papers are Geomatics Engineering and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
  2. Those candidates who are appearing for 1 or 2 papers need to fill only ONE application form. More than one form will be rejected.
  3. The candidates who are appearing for multiple papers will have to submit the separate GATE Application Form fee for each paper.
  4. Though some of the papers will be held in multiple sessions, candidates are allowed to appear in only one session for the applied paper.

GATE Papers 2022

IIT Kharagpur will conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2022 for 29 subjects (papers). The following table shows the list of papers and paper codes for GATE 2022. A candidate is allowed to appear in any one or up to two papers of the examination. However, note that the combination of TWO papers in which a candidate can appear MUST be from the pre-defined list given by the exam conducting authority. GATE 2022 Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria are the prerequisite to apply for an examination. Meeting the eligibility criteria is the first step towards online registration. The Indian Institute of Kharagpur (IIT KGP) has released the eligibility criteria for GATE 2022 applicants. Candidates need to fulfil the GATE eligibility criteria to proceed with the GATE registration process.

Nationality – Candidates of any nationality can apply for GATE 2022, subject to the other eligibility conditions for the postgraduate engineering exam. This means both Indian and international students can apply for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.

Age Criteria – Candidates, irrespective of their age, can register and apply for GATE 2022 as there is no age limit to appear for the postgraduate engineering exam.

Educational Qualification – Candidates in the third or the higher years of undergraduate degree programmes can apply for GATE 2022. Further, those who already have a graduation degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture / Science / Commerce / Arts. The below table provides a brief on the qualifying degree examination with the passing year.

GATE 2022 Application Form Correction

IIT Kharagpur is going to open the GATE 2022 application form correction facility for the candidates. The applicants who want to make any change in their application form can do it in a specified period of time. It gives a chance to the candidates to edit or correct any information in the GATE 2022 application form. Hence, it is important for the candidates to utilize this chance to edit their application form. The correction link will be activated soon on the official website. The direct link to make corrections will be updated here too. The candidates are advised to correct those data before the closing date of the correction window.

However, the candidates can make corrections in the category, exam paper and exam centres only. To make such corrections the candidates need to pay the extra amount of fees as the charges. The exam conducting authority will not accept any corrections or changes after the closing date. The official details regarding the application form correction will be announced soon on the official website. Till then, it is advisable for the candidates to fill the form without any mistakes.

GATE 2022 Mock Test

IIT Kharagpur will soon release the GATE 2022 Mock Test on its official website, i.e. The mock test is like dummy or practice tests of the actual GATE question paper. A mock test is a simulation of a real exam. GATE Mock Test will help students to do better preparation for the exam. This Online Mock Test 2022 will help the candidates get familiar with the GATE Exam Pattern and the type and format of the actual exam paper. The exam conducting authority will release the practical test for various subjects separately. The online practice test for the exam will be 3 hours long, and it will have the same format as the actual exam.

The candidates who want to brush up on their performance should always practice the mock test multiple times. It is always a good approach to solve the GATE Mock Test before going for the actual exam. It will prepare you to tackle different questions in an actual exam time-based environment.

GATE 2022 Question Papers

The pattern of Questions – 

GATE 2022 contain questions of three different type of papers – 

  1. MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) – It carries 1 or 2 marks each, in all the papers and sections. These are objective type questions which will have choices of 4, out of which only one is correct.
  • Negative Marking for wrong answers.
  • For 1 mark MCQ, 1/3 mark will be deducted for wrong answer while for 2 mark question, 2/3 mark will be deducted.
  1. MSQ (Multiple Select Questions) – It carries 1 or 2 marks each in all the papers and sections. There will be no negative marking for a wrong answer in MSQ Types.
  2. NAT (Numerical Answer Type) – It usually carries 1 or 2 marks each in most of the papers and sections. For such types of questions, the answer is usually a real number, which needs to be filled by the candidate using a virtual calculator.

Marks Distribution

There will be 65 questions carrying 100 marks, out of which 10 questions carrying 15 marks will be GA, and the rest will be from the subject.

  1. For paper code AE,AG,BM,BT,CE,CH,CS,EC,EE,ES,GE,IN,ME,MN,MT,NM,PE,PI,TF & XE – Engineering Mathematics will carry around 15% of the total marks and the remaining around 70% of the total marks belonging to subject.
  2. For the paper code AR,CY,EY,GG,MA,PH,ST,XH and XL, the aptitude section will have 15% of the total marks while 85% of the total marks is devoted to the subject.

Design of Questions – 

  1. Recall – These are based on facts, formulae, principle or laws in the discipline of the paper. The candidates are expected to get answers either from their memory of the subject or at most from one line computation.
  2. Comprehension – Such kinds of questions will be helpful to evaluate the candidate’s understanding of the basic concepts of his field. 
  3. Application – In this section, it is expected that candidates should apply their knowledge or use some logical reasoning.
  4. Analysis and Synthesis – Synthesis questions require the candidate to compare more than two pieces of info.

A candidate is allowed to appear in any one or up to two papers of the examination. However, note that the combination of TWO papers in which a candidate can appear MUST be from the pre-defined list below. GATE Question Paper links will be updated here soon.

GATE 2022 Admit Card

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur will release the GATE 2022 admit card on January 03, 2022. The admit card link will be released on the official website in the online mode only. The candidates need to make sure they download the GATE hall ticket before the closing date. Only those candidates will be able to download the hall ticket, who have completed their registration form. The candidates are advised to come to the exam hall with the hall ticket along with one identity proof. To download the GATE admit card, the candidates need to use their login credentials. It is mandatory to download the hall ticket and keep it safe until the admission process is over. Without bringing the GATE Admit Card, no candidates will be allowed to enter the examination centre.

IIT Kharagpur will release the answer key for the GATE 2022 exam on their official website. In the beginning, they release the provisional answer key for the GATE exam. It releases within a week after the exam ends. GATE Exam Result 2022

Indian Institute of Technology will release the GAGTE 2022 result on March 17th on the official website. The result will be declared in the online mode only. The candidates who pass the exam successfully can only download the scorecard from the website. The GATE scorecard will be issued to those candidates who will pass the exam. This scorecard will be valid for up to 3 years. The candidates are advised to keep safe their GATE hall ticket with them. To download the scorecard, the candidates need to use their login credentials which were created at the time of registration. GATE Scorecard 2022

The qualified candidates will be able to download the GATE 2022 Scorecard by login in through GOAPS. The GATE Scorecard will contain the details like obtained marks, AIR, candidate’s details and normalized score. Only those candidates who have secured equal or more than the cutoff marks of the GATE exam will be declared as qualified candidates. Only such candidates will get the GATE 2022 Scorecard. These candidates can apply for further admission and recruitment processes. The candidates are advised to keep the GATE Scorecard for future purposes. The validity of the GATE 2022 scorecard is three years for MTech admissions. However, this validity may not apply to the PSU jobs recruitment.

IIT Kharagpur will release the GATE Cutoff on the official website. The candidates can check the cutoff for GATE 2022 as per subject. The cutoff is the minimum qualifying percentage or marks a candidate should score to qualify for the GATE 2022. However, the cutoff marks play a vital role in the admission process. These marks are decided by various IITs each year. For every 29 subjects, a different GATE Cut off will be proclaimed. It varies from one subject to another. How to Prepare for the GATE Exam 2022?

To prepare for the GATE exam, the candidates must read the complete syllabus for the 2022 session. Although the category of students has been divided into three sections, first those who have just started the GATE preparation, second who have not begun the GATE Preparation and planning to start, and the third one are those who have almost completed the GATE 2022 Syllabus or are about to end. Preparation strategy varies from one category to another.

Preparation Strategy for those who have just started studying for GATE Exam – 

  1. Pick up the important topics of the GATE Syllabus based on the weightage.
  2. It helps you to cover the maximum number of important topics within a minimum time span.
  3. The candidates who have just started preparing for the exam should aim to cover at least 60-70% syllabus.
  4. Solve at least 5 or 6 GATE Mock Tests before the final exam.

GATE Counselling 2022

The candidates who qualify for the exam will have to apply for Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) for IIT Mtech admission and Centralised Counselling Mtech/MDes for NIT admission. The test givers will have to apply separately for CCMT and COAP counselling to get access. For IITs, the candidates will have to use them for individual institutes. Also, private and state universities conduct their counselling based on exam scores. Before allotment of seats, the institutes may conduct further written tests/interviews. The final seat allotment will be based on the candidate’s GATE 2022 Result, resulting in furthe written test/interview and verification of documents. The admission will be completed after the payment of the fee has been done. Only those candidates that have passed the examination successfully can take part in GATE Counselling.


COAP is a common portal where IITs upload their admission to the GATE 2022 qualified candidates. The candidates must accept the admission offer through this portal also. Also, COAP is that important platform where PSUs upload their job offers for qualified students. The candidates must apply separately to the participating institutes. COAP acts as the common platform used by the institutes to upload their offers.

Candidates can make sure that GATE COAP is the application platform for getting admission into MTech programmes. Hence, they have to apply separately for the colleges. The institutes propose their offers in the specified window time. The portal is then made open for the interested aspirants to select the admission/job of their choice. The selection of candidates is as per the guidelines of the respective PSUs and Institutes.

PSU Recruitment through GATE 2022

PSU is the Public Sector Undertaking which is the government-owned companies or corporations. They usually offer employment based on GATE Exam Scores. The recruitment details for various posts inside PSU will be released separately for each one of them. Usually, most of the application process for PSU recruitment through GATE 2022 scores starts with the release of the Hall Ticket for the exam. Some PSUs may also conduct the entrance test, group discussion, and interviews separately to give students admission opportunities.
