Exam Brief

The Indian Navy released an official notification about the recruitment of Agniveer Senior Secondary Recruits (SSR) for the November 2022 batch. According to the notification, the application (online) started on the 15th of July, and all the eligible candidates will be able to submit applications online at the official website of the Indian Navy.

Indian Navy has invited applicants for about 2800 posts of Agniveer SSR across the country. Those candidates who are eligible for the recruitment and want to serve our country can submit the online application. The recruitment process will happen in 2 stages followed by a final medical test for the selected candidates.

Exam Summary

The selected candidates of the Angiveer Senior Secondary Recruits (SSR) will be recruited into the Indian Navy as Agniveers under the Navy Act of 1957 for a mandatory engagement period of four years.

Agniveers would hold a distinct rank in the Indian Navy that is different from any existing ranks. Indian Navy is not obligated to retain any Agniveer beyond their engagement period.

Selection Process

The Indian Navy conducts two examinations for the recruitment of Agniveers: Written Examination and Physical Fitness Test (PFT). Eligible candidates are selected for the examination and PFT is based on their performance in the specified qualifying examination (Class 12). 

The cut-off marks will vary from state to state depending on the number of vacancies in each of those states. The Agniveer selection is based on shortlisting and the written examination, subject to qualifying for the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and fitness in the Medical Examinations that follow.

2. Physical Fitness Test (PFT)

Qualifying in the Physical Fitness Test is mandatory for the Agniveer selection. Without qualifying, the candidates cannot participate in the forthcoming stages of selection. The details of PFT are as follows.

  • Extracurricular proficiency in sports, swimming and other activities is desirable.
  • The two stages, the written examination and physical fitness test will be conducted on the same day.

3. Recruitment Medicals

Recruitment Medical Examination for all the selected Indian Navy Agniveer SSR candidates will be held at INS Chilka. Those who are found medically fit in this round will be recruited into the Indian Navy. Those who are found unfit may appeal against its findings at INHS Nivarini/Kalyani within a period of 21 days. Review/ appeal beyond this timeline is not permissible.

Exam pattern details - Scoring pattern (+/- Marking)

Questions in the Indian Navy Agniveer SSR written examination carry one mark each. For every incorrect answer, there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks. There is no deduction of marks for questions that are unanswered.

There are a total of 100 questions in the written examination for the Indian Navy Agniveer SSR recruitment. There are about 25 questions given in four sections.

Written examination for the Indian Navy Agniveer SSR recruitment is conducted at designated centres on the stipulated date and time. The question paper for the exam will be bilingual in Hindi and English, while the questions are all objective types. The question paper will comprise of four sections:

  • To finish a crucial syllabus such as Mathematics, as a first step, make a list of all the useful formulas.
  • In the Indian Navy Agniveer SSR test, you have just one hour to complete the given question paper.
  • There are approximately about 25 math questions.
  • You may use shortcuts to solve problems in this stipulated period.
  • Set aside different times for the different sections of the subject and give the same importance and practice to each.
  • Dedicate more time to solving problems involving vectors, trigonometry, and quadratic equations in the exam.
  • To complete the question paper in the stipulated amount of time, use relevant formulas and repeatedly practice by solving question papers from previous years and other available sample papers.


  • Study the entire syllabus for the classes 10th and 12th to prepare for Science.
  • There are mostly theory questions in the written exam.
  • Take notes on all topics while you prepare for the theory paper.
  • Take regular notes on various subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology in simple language.
  • Evaluate the prepared topics with the help of a sample paper.
  • Recall the formulas of the elements and compounds and prepare for the Chemistry part of Science.
  • Recall the basic formulas for compounds and remember how to use them regularly.
  • Keep a track of those notes daily.
  • Prepare a table and note the different nutritional elements and the diseases their deficiency can cause.


  • Generally, classes 10th and 12th syllabus questions are asked in the written test for Agniveer SSR.
  • Have extensive knowledge of active and passive voice, direct to indirect and vice versa, to prepare for the English paper.
  • There are questions on synonyms, antonyms and vocabulary in the examination.
  • For questions like sentence correction and verb usage, you must know the different types of verbs.
  • Read English newspapers to develop your vocabulary.
  • Solve question papers regularly and practice questions in English grammar.

General Awareness

  • Firstly, answer questions about thinking in the general knowledge section.
  • Prepare for the questions based on General Knowledge by using the books in the market.
  • Adhere and practice the syllabus taught in class 10 syllabus.
  • Read current events from the last six months while preparing for the current affairs section in general knowledge.
  • Get details from the news, or the daily newspaper, or television for current affairs planning.

The recruitment exam for the Indian Navy Agniveers SSR was announced on the 20th of June 2022.

Application Form Filling - Start & End Date

The candidates can apply only online on the official website. The procedure is as described below.

Step 1: Before filling out the online application, keep your matric certificate and 10+2 mark sheet for ready reference.

Step 2: Register yourself on the official website with your email ID. Ensure that while filling out the Application Form, provide your valid and active email ID and mobile number, which must not be changed till the selection procedure is complete.

Step 3: Login using the registered email ID.

Step 4: Click on "Current Opportunities".

Step 5: Click on the "Apply" button.

Step 6: Fill in the application form completely before clicking 'Submit'. Ensure that all the details are all correct and all the required documents are scanned and uploaded wherever necessary.

  • Note that online applications are scrutinised for eligibility, and candidates may be rejected at any stage if found ineligible.

Documents Required

The documents you have uploaded during the online application, such as: 

  • Original certificate
  • Marksheets
  • Domicile certificate
  • NCC certificate (if applicable) 

These documents must be brought to all the stages of recruitment. In case the details provided in the online application do not match the original documents at any stage of the recruitment, your candidature will be cancelled.

Aadhar Card 

Aadhar card is mandatory for the Indian Navy Agniveer recruitment and will be checked at all the stages of recruitment.


The photograph to be uploaded should be recent and of good quality with a blue background.

Allocation of Exam Centre

Allocation of examination centres for written examinations and PFT is at the discretion of the Indian Navy. Candidates must choose any two options for exam centres during application. The exam centre, once allocated by the board, cannot be changed.

They are suggested to select the exam centres appropriately since the following stages of the recruitment will be allocated near where they have taken the written examination. Candidates will find the name of the allocated exam centre on their admit card.

The final enrolment medical examination will be held at INS Chilka for all the selected candidates.

Candidates born between 1st November 1999 to 30th April 2005 (both dates inclusive) are all eligible for the Indian Navy Agniveer recruitment.

Marital Status

Candidates who are unmarried (male and female) are eligible for enrollment as Indian Army Agniveer. Candidates must sign an undertaking to not marry until the completion of their mandatory service period.

They may be dismissed from service if he/she marries during the initial phase or is found to be already married despite the undertaking.

Medical Standards

  1. A final medical examination is conducted by authorised military doctors as per the medical standards prescribed in current regulations as applicable on entry.
  2. Gender: Any candidate, if identified to possess predominant characteristics of the opposite gender on external physical examination, will be rejected as unfit for the recruitment. Any candidate having done gender reassignment surgery will also be declared as unfit for recruitment.
  3. Pregnancy: Any female candidate, if found to be pregnant, will be disqualified, and her candidature is rejected. A candidate should not have conceived even at the time of reporting and up until the conclusion of the initial mandatory service period. If found to be pregnant after recruitment, her candidature will be rejected, and she cannot proceed with the recruitment.
  4. Minimum Height Standards: Minimum height for male candidates is 157 cm and that for female candidates is 152 cm.
  5. Candidates must have good physical and mental condition, and be free from any diseases or disabilities that may interfere with the performance of duties both under peace and war conditions.


Candidates must get their ears cleaned for wax and tartar removed from their teeth before the medical examination.

Education Qualification

Candidates who passed higher secondary or 10+2 with Mathematics, Physics and at least one of Chemistry or Biology or Computer Science from any recognised Boards of School Education will be eligible for the Indian Navy Agniveer SSR recruitment.

Number of Attempts

There is no limit on the number of attempts for the Indian Navy Agniveer SSR candidates as long as they satisfy the eligibility criteria as mentioned in this article.

The merit list of Indian Navy Agniveers is prepared on the performance of the candidates in the written examination, although they are subject to qualification in the Physical Fitness Test. Merit List for the Agniveer (SSR) - male and female - will be based on the state-wise merit. 

The cut-off marks for the issue of a call letter or the admit card for the recruitment medical examination may vary with state.

There is a separate cut-off set expected for each of the sections. And there is also the overall cut-off that candidates need to get selected. On clearing the Computer Based Test, they must clear the physical fitness test too.

Result Declaration

Candidates taking the written examination will be expected to appear for the PFT on the same day. The Indian Navy Agniveer SSR result will be out 30 days from the day of the exam. Candidates who are selected in both written examination and PFT will be called for the final medical exam. 

Those who clear both the stages will be considered while preparing the merit list for recruitment. If two or more candidates get the same scores in CBT, then the one with the higher percentage in 10+2 examination will be considered first. The aggregate will be calculated by taking the best of five subjects, including Physics and Mathematics.

Salary Structure

Indian Navy Agniveers SSR will be paid a package of Rs 30000/- (Per Month) with a fixed yearly increment. They shall be paid a one-time Seva Nidhi payment package including their monthly contribution and matching a contribution by the Government on completion of their mandatory engagement period. Note: There shall be no entitlement to gratuity and pensionary benefits.

  • Life Insurance Cover: Agniveers will be provided with a non-contributory Life Insurance cover of Rs.48 Lakh for the entire duration of their mandatory engagement period.
  • Death Compensation: In addition to the insurance cover of Rs.48 Lakh, a one-time ex-gratia of Rs.44 Lakh for the death attributable to service will be provided to the next of kin (NOK).
  • Disability Compensation: There is a one-time ex-gratia of Rs.44/ 25/ 15 Lakh based on the percentage of disability as 100%/ 75%/ 50% shall apply to Agniveers.

There are 30 days of leave per year for the Agniveers in the Indian Navy. In addition, sick leaves would be applicable based on the medical advice of a competent medical authority.

List of Future Exam

Enrolment as Sailors (Regular Cadre):

On the completion of four years of mandatory service, based on the organisation’s requirements and policies stipulated by the Indian Navy, the Agniveers will be given a chance to apply for permanent enrollment in the Indian Navy.

Such applications will be considered in a centralised manner based on the objective criteria, including performance during their four-year mandatory service period. Up to 25% of each specific batch of Agniveers can be enrolled in the Indian Navy for further re-engagement as a sailor in a regular cadre. Agniveers shall not have any right to be selected for further enrollment into the Indian Navy. Selection of the Agniveers for further enrollment, if any, shall be at the discretion of the Indian Navy.
