NTSE 2015 Syllabus and Exam Pattern



NTSE is one of the reputed talent search examinations in India. Hence, this exam is one of the most competitive examinations. As about 300,000 students appear in this scholarship exam every year, and 2,000 approx. scholarships are awarded, out of which 1550 are not reserved. The NTSE is for students in class 10 only. In this article, we provide you with a syllabus to study for NTSE exams. Since NTSE syllabus is not exactly defined, it is based on the NCERT syllabus.

There are two levels for this exam. students who have scored 60% marks in their class IX from a recognized school in their respective State or Union Territory are eligible for Level 1(State Level) of the NTSE scholarship exam. For SC/ST/PH category students, a score of 55% in the IX class will make them eligible for this exam. For Level 2 (National Level) students who score 80% and above at the state level are eligible.

Exam Pattern

Level 1 consists of Paper I and Paper II and Level II consists of Paper III. The question paper for the NTSE exams consists of Multiple type questions with four alternatives. Only a single option out of the four have to be selected on the answer sheet and for each correct answer, the student will be rewarded one mark.

NTSE Exam Details

The details of three parts of the exam are listed below,
NTSE Mental ability test (MAT)
This test is given to candidates to judge their power of reasoning, ability to think and to judge, evaluate or discriminate and ability to visualize in space, spatial orientation, etc. The question types will be categorized as analogy, classification, series, pattern perception, hidden figures, coding-decoding, block assembly, problem-solving etc. are used for this purpose.
NTSE Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)
This section is conducted to judge how much of textbook knowledge you have gained. As India doesn’t have any single unified board system, NCERT does not prescribe any particular syllabus for the State Level Examination or for National Level Examination.
NTSE Language Test (LT)
Language Test is designed to judge the power of reading comprehension, logical sequencing, interpretative, evaluative, predictive and creative components of language. You can appear for the Language Test either in English or in Hindi.

Now the most interesting part of the NTSE exam is the scholarship amounts that will be awarded to students who clear these exams.
Scholarships: On the basis of the National Talent Search Examination the scholarship amount will be as follows,

  1. Scholarship of Rs.1250/- per month for Class-XI to XII.
  2. Scholarship of Rs.2000/- per month for Undergraduates and Postgraduates.
  3. The Amount of Scholarship for Ph.D. is fixed in accordance with the UGC norms.
