UPSC IES ISS 2022 Selection Process

The selection procedure of UPSC IES-ISS involves two stages:

Stages Marks Mode
Stage 1 1000 marks Written
Stage 2 200 marks Personal Interview

Note: The Written Exam for both UPSC IES and UPSC ISS has six subjects. The question paper will be set in the English language. The candidates are required to answer in English only.

UPSC IES ISS Syllabus 2022 and Exam Pattern

The Written Exam for UPSC Indian Economic Service exam has the following six subjects (along with marks and time duration):

  • The Written examination is conducted for 1000 marks and it has 6 subjects
  • The time duration for statistics I and II are 2 hours and the time duration for the rest of the examination is 3 hours.
  • Statistics I and II are objective papers and these papers will have 80 questions each with maximum marks of 200, the duration of the examination is 2 hours.
  • Statistics III and IV are descriptive papers where 50% is fixed for small problems/small questions and 50% is for long answer types of questions . At least one short and one long answer question from each section is compulsory. 
  • General English and general students’ papers are common for both IES and ISS examinations.

PART-II-Viva Voce/Interview

The candidate who will clear the written examination will be called for the interview round. The interview is conducted for 200 marks. The interview aims to check the general knowledge and abilities of the candidate.

The entire process of interview is not the strict cross-verification, it is all about checking the mental capability and standard of the candidate. The board will test various things such as intellectual curiosity, grasping power, the balance of judgment, alertness of mind, the integrity of character, the ability for social coherence, and capacity of leadership in the candidate.
