Greatness of BITS – No Reservation, No Recommendation and No Management seats
Now a day’s 50% of the total seats in any institute are being reserved for the people with lower caste, or as payment seats in management quota resulting in the effect on quality of education and the institute both. Even in highly reputed institutes in India like IIT’s and NIT’s are having reservation in engineering seats. The civil service system is considered to be the backbone of the administrative machinery of the country, it is unfortunate that even here, people having reservation around 49.5% (27% for OBCs, 15% for SCs and 7.5% for STs), it means out of 910 seats, only 460 seats are general and rest 450 seats are reserved for the students those are in lower caste.
Unlike other engineering institutes, Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) is the only institute in India without any reservation, or recommendations or management quota. Total there are three campuses of Bits located in Pilani, Goa and Hyderabad comprises total of 2000 seats approximately. Not even single seat is reserved to any particular category. Everyone in Bits comes through online exam BITSAT, conducted by BITS with the constraint that student should get minimum of 80% marks in maths, physics and chemistry subjects.
As no reservation in BITS, more or less everyone will be equally intelligent resulting in increased knowledge by sharing. This results in the good quality of students, so that having a good environment for learning. These reservations and recommendations will not affect much in the early stages of engineering, but will effect in final year of engineering during campus placements. Percentage of students getting placed in on-campus will be less in the institutes having reservation or management quota.
Many deemed universities are conducting their own exams, and reserving some percentage of seats to management quota. It’s like they are just doing business with the engineering seats. They are not bothering about the quality of stunt, they just need money. These management seats results in the variation of students between rich and poor, or merit and poor student. In many colleges, we can observe maintenance of gangs in respect of castes or between north India and south India. Unlike other institutes, these all things will not happen in BITS providing a great environment for better learning.
There is no alternative way to get into BITS other than entrance exam. Previously, some seats were reserved for the state toppers in 11th and 12th, but now it was also removed.427 Views
