Essay Writing Tips and Topics for XAT

Given below is a set of essay writing tips and topics for the XAT exam for enhancing the essay writing skills of the candidates:

Analyze the Topic and Decide How To Proceed

Once you get the topic, you need to decide a plan of action. As most of the topics may seem abstract, you can drive the topic into social issues or any current event. Once you have decided on what context you will write in, your work becomes easier.

You need to try bringing up topics concerned with burning issues and express your point of view through appropriate words. You must consider your own thoughts while reading specific news. In addition, you must consider your own opinion in favour of and against that news.

Note Down Important Points Before Starting to Write

This step of essay writing tips and strategy for XAT is all about accumulating the vital points. Bring all the points in a suitable formation that you want to present in your writing. While writing the essay, you need to support the points by putting in facts and figures.

The more you give credence to the points, the better it will be for the process of evaluation. It is advised for you to enhance your vocabulary skills and keep on practicing the structured form of essay writing.

Prepare a Draft

You need to prepare a draft before starting the actual one. Do not take more than 5 minutes to make it. You also need to segregate the points that must be included in the introduction, main body, and conclusion. Once you complete the draft, writing the original essay for the examination will be easier.

In this case, you can also do the important edits as well as language changes. For instance, the points you are thinking of incorporating into the essay might not come to mind in the appropriate order. Once you prepare the draft, you can change the sequence and put all the points in a suitable order.

Structuring the Essay

You need to ensure that the essay has three parts: an introduction, the main body, and a conclusion. It is also required to be kept in mind that the essay must be around 200 to 300 words. You can use paragraphs to separate the sections. The facts and figures can be stated with the help of bullet points.

Once you are done with the introduction, you will switch to the main body of the essay, which can be illustrated with the help of examples and lastly, inferences can be made to reach the conclusion stage. It is observed that a basic structure in place can help in writing the essay in a relatively faster manner and put a nice flow to it.

Always Keep On Checking the Time

The duration of the examination is 25 minutes. As the essay writing section would be the last section of the XAT of 3 hours, you must save your time as well as energy till the last 25 minutes. Do not forget to revise the final copy of your essay before submitting your paper.

According to the XAT exam pattern, there are two parts in the exam: Part 1 will have 75 multiple choice questions, which will incorporate questions from Decision Making, Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability and Quantitative Ability, and Part 2 will have General Knowledge and Essay Writing sections.
