As mentioned above, there is a total of 500 vacancies for AA and 2200 for SSR. Note that there will not be any reservation for SC/ST candidates. However, SC/ST candidates are exempted from paying the application fee.

Indian Navy Recruitment AA SSR: Eligibility Criteria
The candidate must be an unmarried male. In addition, candidates must meet the following educational qualification and age criteria:
|Artificer Apprentice (AA)||10+2 exam with 60% aggregate or more with the subjects – Maths, Physics, and Chemistry/Biology/Computer Science.|
|Senior Secondary Recruit (SSR)||10+2 examination with Maths, Physics, and Chemistry/Biology/Computer Science.|
Age: 17 to 20 years. Born between Feb 1, 2000 – Jan 31, 2003.
How To Apply For Indian Navy Recruitment AA SSR
In order to apply for this exam, candidates are required to follow the steps as under:
- Go to the official website of Indian Navy.
- Register yourself with your email ID and mobile number which should remain active until the selection process is completed.
- Login with registered email ID.
- Click on “Current Opportunities”.
- Click on the “Apply” button.
- Fill up all the required details and upload the scanned copy of the necessary documents and your photograph (with the blue background).
- Make sure that the data entered is correct and click on the “Final Submit” button.
The application form has been made available on June 28 and candidates can apply until the last date i.e. July 10, 2019.
Application Fee: Candidates (except SC/ST) are required to pay the application fee of Rs 205/- (Rupees Two hundred and five only).

- SC/ST candidates are not required to pay the application fees.
- The application fee will not be refunded under any circumstances.

Indian Navy Recruitment AA SSR: Exam Centre
Candidates are required to choose any two exam centres. They will be allotted the exam centres by the board. The exam centre cannot be changed once allocated by the board. Candidates are advised to select the exam centres carefully since the centre for PFT and Preliminary Medical Examination will be allocated near to where they have appeared for the written examination. Candidate can find the name of the exam centre from their admit card. The Final Enrolment Medical Examination will be held at INS Chilka.
Indian Navy Recruitment AA SSR: Selection Procedure
The selection procedure for Indian Navy AA and SSR involves three stages:
- Computer-Based Examination,
- Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and
- Medical Examinations.
For the post of AA, the all India merit list will be prepared while for the post of SSR, the State-wise merit list will be prepared.
Note that the candidates have to bring the documents in all the stages of recruitment i.e. Written Examination, PFT and Medical Exam. Indian Navy Recruitment AA SSR: Exam Pattern For Computer Based Test
The first stage of the selection process is the Written Exam which will be conducted in the online mode. The questions will be of objective type. A total of 100 questions will be asked and the time allotted to finish the paper will be 1 hour. The question paper will be available in English and Hindi. The exam will be based on English, Science, Mathematics, and General Knowledge.

Marking Scheme: Each question carries 1 mark. There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for every wrong attempt. If the question is not answered then no marks will be deducted.

Indian Navy Recruitment AA SSR: Physical Fitness Test
Candidates need to clear the Computer-Based Examination in order to appear for the Physical Fitness Test. For the PFT, candidates have to perform the following tasks. Note that candidates will be performing these tasks on their own risk.
- 1.6 Km run that has to be completed in 7 minutes
- 20 squat ups
- 10 push ups
Proficiency in sports, swimming and extra-curricular activities is desirable.
Indian Navy Recruitment AA SSR: Preliminary Medical Examination
Candidates need to qualify in PFT in order to appear for Preliminary Medical Examination. It will be conducted by authorized military doctors as per medical standard mentioned below:
- Minimum height 157 cms.
- Weight and Chest should be proportionate.
- Minimum chest expansion of 5 cms.
Candidates declared Temporary Medically Unfit in the Preliminary Recruitment Medicals can avail specialist review from the specified Military Hospital within a maximum period of 21 days. No further review/appeal is permissible if the candidate is declared unfit in the specialist review.
Candidates declared permanent medically unfit in the Preliminary Medical Exam can appeal for specialist opinion in a Military Hospital on payment of Rs 40/- by Military Receivable Order (MRO) at Government Treasury within 21 days. On passing the preliminary medical examination, candidates will only be “Provisionally fit subject to fitness in the final medical examination”
Indian Navy Recruitment AA SSR: Final Enrollment Medical
After the PFT and Preliminary Medical Examination, candidates will be called for the Final Enrollment Medical on the basis of the merit list prepared. Candidates will be called to INS Chilka according to the date and time fixed for their batch. Before coming for the Final Enrollment Medical, candidates must be in good physical and mental health, free from any defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties both ashore and afloat under peace as well as war conditions as per Navy Order. Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned for wax, and tartar removed from teeth prior to the medical examination.
Documents To Be Produced: After the Final Medical examination, candidates will be asked to show Police Verification form and other associated forms along with the Call letter for Final Enrolment Medical Examination at INS Chilka.
Indian Navy Recruitment AA SSR: Medical Standards For Indian Navy Sailor
Here are the medical standards that the medical board expects from the candidates.

Tattoos: Permanent body tattoos are only permitted on the inner face of forearms i.e. from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reversed side of palm/ back (dorsal) side of the hand. Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body are not acceptable and the candidate will be barred from recruitment.
Training: The training will commence in February 2020. For AA, the duration of the training will be 9 weeks while for SSR it will be 22 weeks. First, the candidate needs to go for basic training at INS Chilka; then he must undergo professional training in the allotted trade in various Naval Training Establishment.
Discharge If Found Unsuitable: Sailors can be discharged at any point of time if they have been found to be ineligible or they are not performing up to the mark.
Indian Navy Recruitment AA SSR: Indian Navy Sailor Admit Card
Admit card will be released one week before the exam i.e. in the second week of September. The admit card will have all the necessary information on exam date, exam time, and place of the exam centre. Candidates need to download the admit card from the official website of Indian Navy.
Indian Navy Recruitment AA SSR: Indian Navy Sailor Result
The result of the online examination will be declared 30 days after the exam i.e. by the third week of October. Qualified candidates will be called for PFT and then Medical exam. Candidates who clear PFT and Preliminary Recruitment Medical Examination will only be considered for preparation of merit list.
If two or more candidates are securing the same marks in the CBT or Computer Based Test, then the candidate with higher percentage secured in the 10+2 examination will be considered. The percentage will be calculated taking into consideration the best of five subjects including Maths and Physics.
