The NMMS stands for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme. The scholarship is announced every year in the month of August. The application period varies from state to state. Scheme Details for NMMS Scholarship

Below we have provided the complete details of the NMMS 2023 scholarship scheme, as provided by the authorities:

  • Approx. 1 lac scholarships are granted per year to the students whose parental income is 1.5 lac p.a. or less from all the sources. 
  • As per the state quota, the NMMS 2023 scholarship may differ as per the candidates’ category or the candidates’ domicile. 
  • Every state fixes the quota of scholarships, and the annexure of state quota NMSS scholarship as per the class of the candidates is provided.
  • The maximum amount of the NMMS 2023 scholarship will be a maximum of INR 12000 p.a. The qualified candidates will be paid a scholarship amount of INR 1000 per month.
  • The scholarship will be provided yearly to the students of class 9th studying in a government-aided or wholly government or local body school. The scholarship can be granted for a maximum period of 4 years from class 9th to class 12th. 
  • To get the NMMS 2023 scholarship, the students must qualify for the exam conducted by the State Government or Union Territory. 

Eligibility Criteria for NMMS (Senior and Higher Secondary Stage)

Only the eligible candidates will be able to claim the scholarship of NMMS 2023 for the senior and higher secondary stage. The eligibility conditions for the NMMS 2023 scholarship for the senior and higher secondary stage are given below: 

  • The scholarship is payable for a maximum period of 4 years from class IX to class XII.
  • Only candidates studying in Class 8 will be eligible to fill up the NMMS application forms.
  • The NMMS scholarship is only applicable to candidates studying within India. 
  • The candidates claiming NMMS scholarships must have a clear promotion record of class VIII and IX. 
  • The NMMS scholarship is not provided for the diploma and certificate courses at this stage. 
  • The candidate must have scored a minimum fifty – five per cent marks from class IX to XII in order to continue the NMMS scholarship 2023. For the SC / ST category candidates, 5 per cent marks will be relaxed. 
  • If the school conduct no exam for the NMMS scholarship at the end of class IX and XI sessions, then a certificate of confirmation shall be issued by the head of the school; otherwise, the scholarship will be discontinued. 
  • The Department shall monitor the NMMS scholarship scheme at regular intervals of time by the authorized stakeholders.
  • The candidate must have scored a minimum of sixty per cent marks in class X to continue the NMMS scholarship at the next stage. For the SC / ST category candidates, 5 per cent marks will be relaxed.
  • Only candidates who are not studying in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Central schools, Army schools, private schools or state government-run residential schools and whose family earns a maximum of 1.5 lakhs per annum are eligible to apply for the programme.

Terms and Conditions for Scholarship

The NMMS Scholarship exam has certain terms and conditions that students need to be aware of. The following terms and conditions must be satisfied by students to claim the scholarship of NMMS 2023. Students are advised to go through the terms and conditions carefully before applying for the same. 

  • The course must be approved as per NMMS eligibility.
  • The candidate has to provide a certificate of good conduct in his / her regular studies by the head of the college or institution. 
  • The candidate should not be in any type of employment.
  • The student must be pursuing a whole-time study course.
  • The candidate should not be absent without proper leave.
  • The scholarship will not be provided for the abroad studies. 
  • The scholarship will not be provided if the student discontinues the course within one month of the course registration.
  • If the scholarship will be claimed after 12 months of the course commencement, then no claims will be provided for such arrears.
  • If the candidate will not be able to appear in the final exam, then the medical certificate must be provided at the Head of the institute within three months of sickness.
  • The medical certificate must be provided by the Registered Medical Practitioner. If the candidate’s overall performance during the year is fifty percent or above, only then he/she will be permitted to continue the same course.
  • In case of any gap of one year, in the studies due to any reason, the NMMS 2023 scholarship shall be discontinued by the authorities. 
  • The candidate must join the desired course within three months of the announcement of the last course result. 
  • In case of any breach of the rules provided by the NMMS scholarship for the 2023 session, the scholarship shall be discontinued by the authorities. 
  • The provided rules regarding the NMMS 2023 scholarship can be changed at any time at the discretion of the exam conducting body. 

NMMS Scholarship: NMMS Scholarship 2023 Apply Online

The authorities will release the application form for the NMMS scholarship 2023 on the official website of the respective state SCERT. The application ID and generated password will be further required to log in to the portal of NSP to continue the application form.

The application form for the NMMS scholarship requires the personal and educational details of the students, such as – bank details, date of birth, email ID, contact details, school enrolment number, Aadhaar card details, and state domicile details of the student.
  • 3rd Step- Selection of Student Category: The students of classes 9th and 10th will apply under the category of Pre-Matric scholarship. However, the students of classes 11th and 12th will have to register under the category of Post Matric scholarship as per the NMMS scholarship 2022. 
  • 4th Step- Review the application: After entering all the necessary details, review the application form and re-check all the details. Then click on the submit icon. 
  • 5th Step- Uploading the Necessary Documents: Now, upload all the necessary documents as per the required size and format as income certificate, caste certificate, Aadhaar card, school ID card, etc., on the official website.

NMMS Exam Pattern

  • The question paper of the NMMS exam will be 90 marks.

Disbursement of NMMS Scholarship 2023 

To get the disbursement of the scholarship, Students applying for the scholarship must check the following conditions, which will be applicable to get the disbursement of the scholarship:

  • The state government sends the list of beneficiaries to the scholarship portal. After that, it is scrutinized by the ministry, and funds are sanctioned as per the Annual Budget. 
  • The ministry disburses the total scholarship amount to the State Bank of India. 
  • The NMMS scholarship amount will be paid to all the students by the State bank of India once the ministry sanctions it to SBI Bank.
  • The scholarship amount will be credited to the student’s account per the list provided by the ministry. 
  • In case of any confusion regarding the list, the SBI branches will coordinate with the State Education Department. 
  • The amount of the scholarship will not be disbursed in instalments. The amount will be disbursed once a year, i.e. INR 12000 for each student. 
  • The students will have to open an account in an SBI bank or any public or private sector scheduled bank to get the scholarship. 
  • The awardees must have scored a minimum of 55 % marks in the 9th and 11th classes to continue the scholarship in the next higher class. For SC/ST category candidates, there is a 5 % relaxation.

NMMS Result 2023: State-wise

After the students have appeared for the exam, each state publishes a list of students who passed the MAT and SAT with at least a 40% score on each test. The factors considered when determining the final list of students for NMMS are listed below.

  • According to the guidelines, candidates must achieve at least 40% on each MAT and SAT examination. Reserved categories, on the other hand, have a different set of markings. For them to be eligible for the MCM scholarship, they must get a score of 32 per cent.
  • Applicants must also have received at least 55 per cent on their class 8 final test. For students in the SC/ST category, there is a 5% mark relaxation.
  • To be eligible for NMMS benefits, applicants must meet all eligibility requirements.

The result for NMMS Scholarship 2023 will be released by the respective State Council of Education Research Training (SCERT) for candidates who qualify for the exam and are selected as per the category and quota of Scholarship approved by MHRD.
