Maths Expert Series : Part 2 – Symmetry in Mathematics

For some maths is the scariest of devils, and for others it is the most amazing of human creations. Infinitely elegant, mathematics has the power to drag you in and keep you awed of its beauty, no matter if you’ve been studying her for 50 years.

No wonder then, that the famous Mathematician Alfred Renyi said –

“If I feel unhappy, I do mathematics to become happy. If I am happy, I do mathematics to keep happy.”

(Mathematicians are supposed to have the happiest jobs according to this study!)

There are entire branches of Mathematics which have no real world applications but have motivated the best minds of the world for decades simply for being beautiful, elegant or wonderfully symmetric.
