KVPY Scholarship 2025: The Department of Science and Technology has decided to substitute the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) scholarship programme with the INSPIRE. INSPIRE is Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research, also conducted by DST. The ongoing KVPY fellows will continue under the fellowship as per the DST scheme.
INSPIRE encourages Indian youth to pursue Science at an early age to build required critical human resources in Science and Technology. The KVPY exam, which is now linked to INSPIRE, will continue to be conducted by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

The Department of Science & Technology has subsumed the KVPY programme under INSPIRE. All students are advised to go through the eligibility criteria before applying for the KVPY exam. Read below to know the KVPY eligibility criteria in detail.
In India specific model for attracting talent with an aptitude for research and innovation, for a career in Basic & Natural sciences is required. Department of Science & Technology (DST) has developed an innovative programme named Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) to attract talent to the excitement and study of science at an early age, and to help the country build the required critical resource pool for strengthening and expanding the S&T system and R&D base with a long term foresight.
INSPIRE has three components:
(i) Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent (SEATS),
(ii) Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) and
(iii) Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC).
(i) Scheme for Early Attraction of Talent (SEATS) aims to attract talented youth to study science by providing INSPIRE Award of Rs 5000 to one million young learners of the age group 10-15 years, ranging from Class VI to Class X standards, and also by arranging summer camps for about 50,000 science students of Class XI with global leaders in science to experience the joy of innovations on an annual basis through INSPIRE Internship.
(ii) Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE) aims to enhance rates of attachment of talented youth to undertake higher education in science-intensive programmes, by providing scholarships and mentorship. The scheme offers 10,000 Scholarships every year at Rs 0.80 lakh per year for talented youth in the age group 17-22 years, for undertaking Bachelor’s and Masters’s level education in natural sciences. The main feature of the scheme is the mentorship support provided to every scholar.
(iii) Assured Opportunity for Research Careers (AORC) aims to attract, attach, retain and nourish talented young scientific Human Resources for strengthening the R&D foundation and base. It has two sub-components. In the first component i.e. INSPIRE Fellowship (age group of 22-27 years), it offers 1000 fellowships every year, for carrying out doctoral degrees in both basic and applied sciences including engineering and medicine. In the second component i.e. INSPIRE Faculty Scheme, it offers assured opportunity every year for 1000 post-doctoral researchers in the age group of 27-32 years, through contractual and tenure track positions for 5 years in both basic and applied sciences areas.
The students who qualify in the KVPY INSPIRE exam are eligible for the fellowship. The students receive a fellowship from 1st year onwards of their graduation. we have provided the KVPY scholarship amount in the table below:

INSPIRE Fellowship:
The selection of INSPIRE Fellows shall be based on the screening of applications by an expert panel followed by the final selection by the peers from among the eligible candidates. This is to be drawn from 1st Rank Holders of M.Sc. in Science stream & M. Tech. in Applied stream at the universities and academic institutions.
INSPIRE Faculty Scheme:
In the INSPIRE faculty scheme, fellowships will be awarded for pursuing post-doctoral research on a competitive mode involving a peer process. Selection will be based on the research proposal to be peer-reviewed by an international and national expert peer panel.
Ans: The students who qualify in the KVPY Exam are eligible for the fellowship. All KVPY scholars will receive a monthly fellowship of ₹5,000 during 1st to 3rd years of – B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math. / Integrated M.Sc. /M.S. Also, KVPY scholars will get a monthly fellowship of ₹7000 during M. Sc. / 4th to 5th years of Integrated M.Sc. /M.S./M.Math./M.Stat.
Ans: All the eligible candidates have to clear the KVPY INSPIRE aptitude test and interview to obtain the INSPIRE fellowship.
