The Central Teacher Eligibility Test consists of two papers. Paper 1 is for determining the eligibility of candidates to teach classes 1 to 5. On the other hand, paper 2 determines the eligibility of candidates to teach classes 6 to 8. CTET Eligibility Criteria 2023

The eligibility criteria for both papers are different. Therefore, candidates applying for paper 1 must check eligibility for primary teachers. Furthermore, applicants appearing for paper 2 must go through the eligibility for the same. Candidates must also note that they have the option to appear for both papers. CTET Paper 1: Educational Qualification for Primary Teacher (Class 1-5)

Applicants wishing to apply for the post of Classes I-V teachers should have passed the Senior Secondary or equivalent exam with at least 50% marks. They should have also passed or currently appearing for the final year exam of the 2-year Diploma course in Elementary Education. OR

They must have passed the Senior Secondary or equivalent exam with a minimum of 45% marks. Also, they should have passed or appeared for the final year exam of the 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education, per the NCTE Regulations, 2002. OR 

Candidates should have passed the Senior Secondary or equivalent exam with at least 50% marks. They should also have passed or currently appearing for the 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed) final year exam. OR 

Aspirants must have passed the Senior Secondary or equivalent exams with a minimum of 50% marks. They should also have passed or currently appearing for the final year of the 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education)*. OR 

They should have completed their graduation with at least 50% marks and a Bachelor of Education (B. Ed)*.

How To Practice CTET Exam Questions on Embibe?

Know the steps to practice exam questions on CTET Paper 1 or CTET Paper 2 below:

  • 1st Step: Visit Embibe’s official website, i.e., embibe.com.
  • 2nd Step: Use the mobile number/email to log in.
  • 3rd Step: Click on the menu bar “Getting a Government Job”. 
  • 4th Step: Select the Goal “Teaching” from the dropdown and click on “Next”.
  • 5th Step: Search and select “CTET Paper 1/ CTET Paper 2” on the search bar and click on “Next”.
  • 6th Step: Select the preferred language and click on “Done”.
  • 7th Step: Click “Practice” from the header section.
  • 8th Step: Scroll down to the “Subjects” section.
  • 9th Step: Click on any CTET subjects.
  • 10th Step: Scroll down to click on the chapters from the selected subject to begin the practice.

CTET Paper 2: Educational Qualification for Upper Primary Teacher (Class 6-8)

Candidates applying for this position should be graduates who must have passed or currently appear for the final year exam of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education. OR 

Candidates should have completed their graduation with at least 50% marks. Also, they should have passed or currently appearing for a 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed). OR 

They must have completed their graduation with at least 45% marks and should have passed or currently appearing for 1 year of Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) in accordance with the NCTE Regulations. OR

They should have passed Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and should have passed or currently appearing for the final year exam of a 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) course. OR 

Aspirants must have passed the Senior Secondary or equivalent exam with at least 50% marks and should have passed or currently appearing for the 4-year BA/BSc final year exam. Ed or BA.Ed/B.Sc.Ed course. OR

Candidates should have completed their graduation with at least 50% marks and must have passed or currently appearing for 1-year B.Ed (Special Education)*.

Note: ‘*’ refers to applicants who have secured the certificate of Bachelor of Education from any NCTE recognised Institution.

Verification of CTET Eligibility

If an applicant is allowed to appear for the CTET 2023, it does not mean that his/her eligibility criteria have been verified. This does not assure an appointment for the applicant. The concerned authorities must verify candidates’ eligibility before taking them aboard.

Therefore, applicants should check their eligibility criteria before applying. Also, applicants should know that providing false, wrong or inaccurate information may lead to cancellation of the candidature, cancellation of the test result, forfeiture of certificate and even prosecution if required.

Important Points Regarding CTET Eligibility

Some of the important points to note regarding the eligibility criteria for CTET are as under:

  • 5% relaxation is given to applicants belonging to the Reserved Categories i.e. SC/ST/OBC/PwD.
  • Diploma/Degree courses in Education recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) only will be taken into consideration.
  • Diploma in Education (Special Education) and B.Ed (Special Education) recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) only will be taken into consideration.
  • The minimum qualifications mentioned above are for teachers of different subjects. In the case of Physical Education teachers, the minimum qualification norms referred to in NCTE Regulation, dated 3rd November 2001 (as amended on a timely basis) will be applicable. For teachers of Arts, Crafts, Home Science, Work Education, etc., the existing eligibility criteria prescribed by the State Governments and other school management will be applicable until the NCTE lays down the minimum qualifications for such teachers.
  • A person who is currently pursuing any of the education courses recognised by the NCTE or the RCI is eligible for appearing in CTET.
