UGC NET 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants must fulfil the eligibility criteria before proceeding with the UGC NET online registration. Check out the eligibility requirements below:

Educational Qualification

• Candidates should have a Master’s degree or equivalent examination with at least 55% marks from
  universities/ institutions recognised by UGC.
• OBC/ ST/ SC/ PwD/ Third gender candidates should have 50% marks in Master’s degree or equivalent examination.
• Final-year students or aspirants whose final year result is still awaited are also eligible to apply for UGC NET. However, the officials will consider them eligible for the award of JRF/ eligibility for Assistant Professor only after they have passed the degree examination with the minimum marks required.
• PhD degree holders whose Master’s degree examinations have been completed by September 19, 1992, are eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks.

Age Limit

• JRF: The age of candidates applying for the award of Junior Research Fellowship must not exceed 31 years as of June 01, 2023.
• Assistant Professor: There is no upper age limit for candidates applying for Assistant Professor.

UGC NET 2023 Selection Process

Candidates who pass the UGC NET 2023 entrance exam will be selected from the final merit list. The top 6% of all students who take both papers in the test will be considered qualified for the entrance test. However, admittance to various Indian universities or institutions for the position of assistant professor or JRF will be granted based on the cut-off score obtained in their respective categories.
