OPSC CSE Selection Process

Candidates have to clear all the stages of CSE under the OPSC Recruitment drive to secure their desired position in Odisha Public Service Commission. All the appearing candidates must clear three stages in one go. Aspirants cannot skip or jump any stage and proceed further with the OPSC recruitment. In such a case, the candidature of that candidate will be forfeited immediately.

The OPSC Exam Pattern is divided into three stages, including:

Stage 1: OPSC Prelims Exam

Stage 2: OPSC Main Exam

Stage 3: Interview

OPSC Prelims comprises two papers – General Studies Paper 1 and General Studies Paper 2.

OPSC ASO Syllabus For CSE Preliminary Exam

OPSC CSE Preliminary exam is qualifying in nature. It is a compulsory exam, and those who clear this exam are eligible for the Main exam. The commission will fix the qualifying marks in the Preliminary exam. The marks secured in this exam will not be counted for ranking. The detailed syllabus for OPSC CSE Preliminary Exam is provided below:

2. Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiative, etc.
3. History of India and Indian National Movement.
4. Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World
5. Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
6. General Issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change that do not require subject specialization, and
7. General Science.

0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer. The candidate needs to select only one option out of four choices. If they mark more than one answer, it will be considered a wrong answer.

The Main Exam comprises compulsory papers and optional papers. There are 5 compulsory papers which include Odia Language, English, English Essay, General Studies I & II.

OPSC CSE Main Exam Syllabus: English Essay

Candidates will be required to write an essay on a specific topic. The choice of subject will be given to them. The candidates will have to stick to the topic, write concisely, and arrange their ideas in an orderly way. Credit will be given for effective and exact expression.

OPSC CSE Main Exam Syllabus: General Studies I

The syllabus for General Studies I is as under:

  1. History of Modern India and Indian Culture
    (a) The History of Modern India will cover the following :
    (i) History of India since 1857
    (ii) Important personalities who shaped the Freedom Movements in Odisha and India
    (iii) Social Reform Movements
    (b) Indian culture will cover the following:
    (i) Indian culture from ancient times to modern times
    (ii) Temple architecture of Odisha
    (iii) Socio-cultural developments in Odisha
  2. The geography of India will cover the following:
    (i) Physical, economic and social geography of India
    (ii) Odisha’s Physiography and Drainage system
    (iii) Odisha’s Natural Resources – Water, forest and minerals
  3. Indian Polity will include the following:
    (i) Constitution of India
    (ii) Political system of India
    (iii) Government and politics in Odisha
    (iv) Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) in Odisha
  4. Current National issues and topics of social relevance:
    This part is intended to test the candidate’s awareness of current national issues and topics of social relevance in present-day India, such as:
    (i) Demography & Human Resource Development
    (ii) Behavioural & Social issues and Social Welfare problems: Child labour, gender inequality, adult literacy, rehabilitation of the handicapped and other deprived segments of society, drug abuse, public health, education, and unemployment.
  5. Legal and environmental issues:
    (i) Human Rights

    (iii) Communal harmony
    (iv) Protection of minorities

  4. Developments in science & technology, communications, and space: The questions in this section will test candidates’ awareness of the developments in the field of science & technology, communications, space, and basic ideas of the computer.
  5. Statistical Analysis, Graphs & Diagrams: This part will include exercises to test the candidates’ ability to draw common-sense conclusions from information presented in graphical, statistical, or diagrammatic form and point out deficiencies, limitations or inconsistencies therein. The candidates should also be aware of counting and elementary probability techniques.

The OPSC Main exam comprises five compulsory papers and four optional papers. The Mains exam will be of descriptive type. The details of these papers are mentioned below:

OPSC CSE Personal Interview

The Board will interview candidates who qualify in the Main exam constituted by the OPSC. The Personal Interview carries 250 marks.

The objective of the Interview is to assess the personal suitability of the candidate for the service. The interview will be conducted to judge the following traits of the candidate:
