The SSC CHSL exam consists of 3 tiers that the candidates will have to clear.

SSC CHSL Tier-1 Exam Pattern
The Tier-1 exam will be a computer-based test, consisting of objective type questions.
The exam will contain 4 sections, comprising a total of 200 marks from 100 questions (2 marks per question).
60 minutes will be given to complete the examination, and 75 minutes for visually handicapped students.
There will be a negative marking of 0.5 marks for each wrong answer.

SSC CHSL Tier-2 Exam Pattern
The Tier-2 exam will be a descriptive type paper.
There will be 2 questions, one based on essay writing of about 200 to 250 words, and the other one letter or application writing of 150 to 200 words.
Each question will consist of 50 marks, and candidates will be given 60 minutes duration for each section.
There will not be any negative marking for the Tier-2 examination.

SSC CHSL Tier-3 (Typing Test)
SSC CHSL Tier 3 will test your practical skills like typing speed.
Candidates applying for Data Entry Operator need to have a minimum typing speed of 8000 depression cases per hour.
For highly skilled Data Entry Operators, who are often required by the Comptroller and Auditor General, the typing speed should be 15000 per hour.
The minimum typing speed for Sorting Assistant or Postal Assistant should be 35 words per minute for English and 30 words per minute for Hindi.
SSC CHSL Cut-Off Marks 2025
The Staff Selection Commission will release the SSC CHSL Tier-1 and SSC CHSL Tier-2 marks and cut-off scores for the Tier-1 and Tier-2 a few days after the completion of the respective examinations. It should be noted that the Tier-3 examination will be qualifying in nature and does not involve any cut-off marks.

In case, there is a tie in the scores of two or more candidates (in tier-I+tier-II) at the time of creating SSC CHSL merit list, it will be resolved by following the below criteria:
The candidate scoring more marks in tier-II exam is ranked higher.
If the tie is still not resolved, the candidate higher in age is ranked higher.
Further, if the tie is still not resolved, the candidates are ranked in alphabetical order.
