The SSC Stenographer selection procedure involves three stages. The 1st stage is a computer-based test. The 2nd stage is a skill test and qualifying in nature. SSC Stenographer Grade C and D Selection Procedure 2023

Candidates appearing for SSC Stenographer recruitment exam must go through the selection procedure. Knowing the selection process will help them in their preparation. Furthermore, they can get to know about the whole SSC Stenographer selection stages involved in the recruitment. The SSC Stenographer selection procedure consists of the following three stages:

  • 1st Stage: Computer-based Examination (CBE)
  • 2nd Stage: Skill Test
  • 3rd Stage: Document Verification (DV)

SSC Stenographer Selection Stage 1: Computer-based Exam

The 1st stage of the selection process is a computer-based examination (CBE). The SSC Stenographer CBE contains objective-type multiple-choice questions. The questions paper contains three parts or subjects, namely General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, and English Language and Comprehension. Furthermore, the question paper contains 200 questions for 200 marks. The overall duration of the exam is two hours.

The Commission will normalise marks scored by candidates in the exam using the prescribed formula. Furthermore, the normalised marks will be used to determine the final merit and cutoff marks. SSC shortlists candidates for the skill test based on the marks candidates obtain in CBE.

Important Points:

  • The medium of the question paper is English and Hindi except for the English subject.
  • For every correct answer, candidates get one mark.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.

SSC Stenographer Selection Stage 2: Skill Test

The second stage of the SSC Stenographer selection is the skill test. Moreover, the skill test is mandatory but qualifying in nature. Candidates who clear the computer-based exam are qualified for the skill test.

The officials will give one dictation to candidates for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as opted by candidates). Furthermore, the speed of dictation is 100 words per minute (wpm) for Stenographer Grade C and 80 wpm for Stenographer Grade D. Candidates have to transcribe the matter on the computer. The transcription time is as follows:

SSC Stenographer Skill Test Details:

  • Candidates who opt to take the Stenography Skill Test in Hindi must learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment. Appointing departments will not clear candidates’ probation if they fail to learn.
  • Candidates have to work as English/ Hindi Stenographers as per the functional requirement of the User Office, irrespective of the Skill Test medium that candidates have selected.
  • The Commission will conduct the Skill Test at its regional offices or other centres.

SSC Stenographer Selection Stage 3: Document Verification

All the candidates who cleared the skill test are required to appear for document verification (DV). Furthermore, they have to appear for DV along with the photocopies and original documents provided below:

  • Matriculation/ Secondary Certificate
  • Educational Qualification Certificate
  • Caste/ Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • Persons with Disabilities Certificate (if applicable)
  • For Ex-Servicemen (ESM): Serving Defence Personnel Certificate, Undertaking, and Discharge Certificate
  • Relevant Certificate for Age Relaxation
