JoSAA Counselling and Choice Filling Process 2022

JoSAA manages the joint seat allocation for all the listed institutes for the academic year 2022-23. Admission will be done on the official platform, and the process in detail is as below:

1st Step: Registration

  1. Students can register themselves on the official website for JoSAA counselling using their JEE Main roll numbers.
  2. For students who have cleared their JEE Advanced, they can register using JEE Advanced roll numbers, and for the rest of the students, JEE main roll number can be used.
  3. Students are not required to fill in any other details.
  4. During the registration process, students can update their contact details and password (password has to be changed mandatorily)

2nd Step: Choice Filling

  1. For students who have cleared their JEE Advanced exams, the choice will be open for institutes including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs.
  2. For students who have only cleared their JEE Mains, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs will be available for choice.
  3. Set your most preferred option at the top and arrange it in the order of most preferred to least preferred from top to bottom.
  4. Go through the list carefully and after you are sure, save your preferences.

Note: If you want to quit the counselling rounds, you can do so before the 5th round of seat allocation, and your JEE Advanced counselling fees will be returned to you. However, after the 5th round, the exit will not be allowed and no refund will be available.

3rd Step: Mock Allocation Rounds

During mock seat allocation rounds, the students can understand the process. Based on the mock allocation rounds, students can also modify their final choices.

4th Step: Seat Allocation and Rank Announcements

After you have filled the choices, you will go through rounds for seat allocation. If you accept a seat during a particular round, you can download the provisional allotment letter from the official website and pay the seat acceptance fees.

If you are not satisfied with the allocated seats, you have 3 choices while considering choices for institutes:

  1. Freeze: When you have accepted the seat and do not want to participate in the next round, you can select this option.
  2. Slide: You can choose this option when you want to lock a particular institute, but want to see if you can get a better course in the same institution by the next round.
  3. Float: When you want to lock the seat but want to see if you can get a seat in a better institute/course, you can choose this option.

5th Step: Payment of Seat Allocation Fees

During the allocation rounds, if candidates want to accept a seat, they will have to pay a seat acceptance fee. This is the same as the JEE advanced counselling fees. The seat acceptance fee will be included in the semester fees after the admission has been confirmed in the preferred institute.

CategorySeat Allocation Fees
General35,000
SC/PwD/ST/OBC15,000

Note: The JEE advanced counselling fees have to be paid using the e-challan method.

6th Step: Reporting at Respective Reporting Centre

After you have paid the seat acceptance fees, you have to visit your respective reporting centres and verify your documents. Candidates are required to carry original documents with a set of 2 photocopies. Officials working at the reporting centre will verify the documents required for JEE Advanced counselling and submit the photocopies for the process.

Following are the list of documents required for JEE Advanced Counselling:
