JoSAA Counselling 2024: Know the Choice Filling Process

JoSAA is managing the joint seat allocation for all the listed institutes for the academic year 2024. There will be a total of six rounds of counselling. Admission is made on the official platform, and the process in detail is as follows:

JEE Advanced Counselling Registration

  1. Students can register on the official JoSAA counselling website using their JEE Main roll numbers.
  2. Students who have cleared their JEE Advanced roll numbers can register using JEE Advanced roll numbers, and the JEE main roll number can be used for the rest. Students are not required to fill in any other details.
  3. During registration, students can update their contact details and password (the password has to be changed mandatorily).

JEE Advanced Choice Filling

  1. For students who have cleared their JEE Advanced exams, the choice is open for institutes, including IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs.
  2. For students who have only cleared their JEE Mains, NITs, IIITs, and other GFTIs will be available for choice.
  3. Set your most preferred option at the top and arrange it in the order of most preferred to least preferred from top to bottom.
  4. Go through the list carefully, and after you are sure, save your preferences.

Note: If you want to quit the counselling rounds, you can do so before the 5th round of seat allocation, and your JEE Advanced counselling fees will be returned to you. However, after the 5th round, the exit will not be allowed, and no refund will be available.

Mock Allocation Rounds

During mock seat allocation rounds, the students can understand the process. Students can modify their final choices based on the mock allocation rounds.

Seat Allocation and Rank Announcements

After you have filled in the choices, you will go through rounds for seat allocation. If you accept a seat during a particular round, you can download the provisional allotment letter from the official website and pay the seat acceptance fees.

If you are not satisfied with the allocated seats, you have 3 choices while considering choices for institutes:

  1. Freeze: When you have accepted the seat and do not want to participate in the next round, you can select this option.
  2. Slide: You can choose this option when you want to lock in a particular institute but want to see if you can get a better course in the same institution by the next round.
  3. Float: When you want to lock the seat but want to see if you can get a seat in a better institute/course, you can choose this option.

Payment of Seat Allocation Fees

During the allocation rounds, candidates will have to pay a seat acceptance fee if they want to accept a seat. This is the same as the JEE advanced counselling fees. The seat acceptance fee will be included in the semester fees after the admission has been confirmed in the preferred institute.

CategorySeat Allocation Fees
General35,000
SC/PwD/ST/OBC15,000

Note: The JEE advanced counselling fees must be paid using the e-challan method.

Reporting at Respective Reporting Centre

After paying the seat acceptance fees, you must visit your respective reporting centres and verify your documents. Candidates are required to carry original documents with a set of 2 photocopies.
