About Exam

The National Talent Search Examination is one of the most important scholarship exams at the secondary level. It is administered by the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) at two stages across the country. The NTSE Stage I exam is conducted by the states and UTs whereas the NTSE Stage II exam is conducted by NCERT. 

The NTSE Stage I Himachal Pradesh Exam is conducted by the HP State Council of Educational Research and Training. Every year, approximately 9-10 lakh students apply for this particular exam. The National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) evaluates students’ knowledge in subjects such as Maths, Science, Social Science, and Mental Abilities.

NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) is held each year at two levels: Stage-I (State level) and Stage-II (National level). The National Council administers it for Educational Research and Training (NCERT). 

The Government of India established NTSE with the mission of advising and assisting the State and Central Governments in improving the quality of school education. The states are in charge of NTSE Stage I, while NCERT is in charge of NTSE Stage II. State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Himachal Pradesh conducts the HP NTSE Stage-I.

NTSE Stage I Himachal Pradesh Application Process

Exam Pattern

To appear for the NTSE Stage I exams students need to first register their names on the official website. The application form will be available on the website. Refer to the steps below to learn how to register for the NTSE Stage I HP Exam.

  • Step1: Visit the official website at https://himachalservices.nic.in/scert/en-IN/index.html
  • Step 2: Click on the ‘Candidate Registration and Login’ link.
  • Step 3: Students must now click ‘New User Click Here to Register’ to create a Login ID and Password.
  • Step 4: Enter all the information and press the ‘Send OTP’ button.
  • Step 5: Enter the OTP and submit it to validate the mobile number and email address.
  • Step 6: Login information will be displayed on the screen or emailed to the registered mobile number and email address.
  • Step 7: Now, log in to the portal with the same credentials.
  • Step 8: Fill out and submit the remaining NTSE HP registration form.
  • Step 9: Pay the application fees and obtain a printout of the final form and the payment receipt. The fee is Rs 50 for general and Rs 40 for reserved categories.

While registering for the NTSE Himachal Pradesh, students must submit a few important documents.

After completing the NTSE application form, students must submit the documents listed below to complete the registration process:

  • A scanned copy of the applicant’s photo
  • Applicants’ signature, scanned
  • Scanned copies of the applicants’ declaration forms
  • A scanned copy of the applicant’s disability or caste certificate if applicable

NTSE Stage I Himachal Pradesh Exam: Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for NTSE Stage I HP exam are listed below.

  • The student must be studying in class 10 in a school affiliated with the HP board or any recognised board.
  • Open school students studying in Class 10 can also submit the NTSE form provided their age is below 18 years and they are not employed.
  • Both Indian candidates and students of Indian origin can apply for the NTSE Stage I HP exam.

NTSE Stage I Himachal Pradesh Exam Pattern: Subject-wise

NTSE Stage I examination is of 200 questions and each question carries one mark. There are a total of two papers, and each paper has 100 questions. Paper 1 is called the Mathematical Ability Test (MAT) and Paper 2 is called the Scholastic Ability Test (SAT).

NTSE Stage I HP Exam Pattern: Total Time

The total duration of the NTSE Stage I examination is 4 hours or 240 minutes. The NTSE Stage I examination consists of two papers, such as Paper 1 (MAT) and Paper 2 (SAT), and each paper is 120 minutes or 2 hours.

Students should complete the examination within the given time period. Paper 1 (MAT) is conducted in the morning session, whereas Paper 2 (SAT) is conducted in the afternoon session.

Study Plan to Maximise Score

Students should be aware that NTSE Stage I will include questions from the modified HP education board syllabus. The syllabus for the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) 2022 is largely based on topics covered in Classes 9 and 10. For both papers, the Mental Ability Test and the Scholastic Aptitude Test, there are objective-type questions on important topics.

Questions on the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) are drawn from the Social Sciences, Sciences, and Mathematics. The MAT exam will include questions assessing verbal and nonverbal abilities such as reasoning and critical thinking. Other topics covered include analogy, classification, numerical series, pattern perception, concealed figures, and others.

NTSE Stage I Himachal Pradesh Exam Admit Card 2023
