Q.1: Is the statement true or false? Give reasons. Only one line can pass through a single point.
Solution: Given, only one line can pass through a single point.
We know that through a single point, an infinite number of lines can pass.
Therefore, the given statement is false because an infinite number of lines can pass through a single point.
Q.2: There are an infinite number of lines which pass through two distinct points. True or False
Solution: We know that only one line can pass through two distinct points. Here in the following figure, we can find that there is only one line that can pass through two distinct points P and Q.

About NCERT Class 9 Maths Chapter 5 Ex 5.1
Exercise 5.1 contains 07 questions based on the topic of Euclid’s Definitions, Axioms, and Postulates. In this topic, students will learn about various definitions, axioms, and postulates that Euclid has provided.
Various Greek mathematicians of Euclid’s time thought of geometry as an abstract model of the world. From studies of the space and solids in the space, they developed an abstract geometrical notion of a solid object. According to them, a solid has shape, size, position, and is movable from one place to another. Its boundaries are called surfaces. The boundaries of the surfaces are called curves or straight lines. Furthermore, these lines end in points.
In each step, we lose one extension, also called a dimension. Thus, a solid has three dimensions, a surface has two, a line has one, and a point has none. Euclid summarised these statements as definitions and listed 23 definitions. Furthermore, Euclid assumed certain properties that are divided into two types, i.e., axioms and postulates.
He used the term ‘postulate’ for the assumptions that were specific to geometry. On the other hand, ‘axioms’ were assumptions used throughout mathematics and not specifically linked to geometry.
