Question: Find the zeroes of the following quadratic polynomial and verify the relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients (x2-2x-8)
Answer: Given: x2-2x-8

=x2-4x+2x-8 [Factorisation by splitting the middle term] =xx-4+2(x-4) =x-4x+2 We know that the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial ax2+bx+c are the same as the roots of the quadratic equation ax2+bx+c=0.

Therefore, by equating the given polynomial to zero. We get,

x2-2x-8=0

⇒x-4x+2=0 ⇒x-4=0 or x+2=0 ⇒x=4 or x=-2 Therefore, the zeroes of x²-2x-8 are 4 and -2. Sum of zeroes =4-2=2=–21=-Coefficient of xCoefficient of x2 Product of zeroes =4×-2=-8=-81=Constant term Coefficient of x2

Hence, the relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients is verified.

Question: Find the zeroes of the following quadratic polynomial and verify the relationship between the zeroes and the coefficients. 4s2-4s+1
Answer
: Given: 4s2-4s+1

We know that the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial ax2+bx+c are the same as the roots of the quadratic equationax2+bx+c=0. Therefore, by equating the given polynomial to zero, we get,
4s2-4s+1=0 ⇒(2s-1)2=0 ⇒2s-1=0 ⇒s=12

Therefore, the zeroes of 4s2-4s+1 are 12 and 12

Sum of zeroes =12+12=1=(-(-4))4=-(Coefficient of s)(Coefficient of s2) Product of zeroes =12×12=14=Constant termCoefficient of s2 Hence, the relationship between the zeroes and the
