NIACL AO Exam Pattern 2021 | Selection Procedure

NIACL AO exam follows a three-stage selection process. Candidates have to get through each stage to get on to the next one. We throw light on the selection processes below:

  1. Preliminary Exam (Stage 1)
  2. Mains Exam (Stage 2)
  3. Interview (Stage 3)

Candidates will be able to take Mains only if they obtain the minimum qualifying marks in the Prelims. Names of those candidates will be shortlisted for Interview who get through Mains. The final merit list will be based on the candidate’s performance in Mains and Interview.

NIACL AO Exam Pattern For Prelims

Candidates have to qualify in each test/section by securing passing marks to be decided by the Company. An adequate number of candidates in each category as decided by the Company (approximately 15 times the numbers of vacancies subject to availability) will be shortlisted for the Main Examination. NIACL AO prelims have 3 sections. Except for the English language section, the Reasoning Ability and Quantitative Aptitude section will be available in both English and Hindi language. The time duration for all three sections is 20 minutes each.

NIACL AO Exam Pattern For Mains

The Main Examination will consist of Objective Tests for 200 marks and a Descriptive Test for 30 marks. The test will be of 2 hours duration. Both the Objective and Descriptive Tests will be online. Candidates will have to answer the Descriptive Test on the computer. Immediately after completion of the Objective Test, Descriptive Test will be administered

Descriptive Test

NIACL AO conducts the Descriptive Test of 30 minutes duration comprising of 30 marks. The test includes sections of Letter Writing-10marks & Essay-20 marks. The descriptive test is in English and is conducted through online mode. Candidates who qualify the objective test only their descriptive answer scripts will be evaluated.


Aspirants who get shortlisted in Mains will be called for an interview that will be conducted by NIACL. The interview will be conducted only at the selected centres. The ratio of online Examination and Interview will be 80:20 respectively. Centre name, the address of the centre, time & date of Interview will be informed to the shortlisted aspirants in the call letter. Candidates are required to download their interview call letters from NIACL official website and that no call letter will be sent to them by post or email.
