SBI Clerk Selection Process 2023

The selection procedure for SBI Clerk consists of three stages. Candidates will be selected based on their performance in these three stages.

  1. Preliminary Examination (Prelims): The preliminary examination is the first stage of the selection process and will consist of three sections for 100 marks.
  2. Main Examination (Mains): The Mains exam is the second stage of the selection process. This test will consist of four sections for 200 marks, with a time limit of 2 hrs 40 minutes.
  3. Test of Specified Opted Local Language: The final stage will be a local language test. Candidates who pass this will be chosen for the position of Clerk.

SBI Clerk Selection Stage 1 2023: Phase 1 (Prelims)

The candidates will have to attend an online objective test for 100 marks. The duration of the test is 1 hour. The bank will decide on the shortlisted number for the exam, which will be around 20 times the number of vacancies subject to availability.

  • There are no minimum qualifying marks for the individual subject as well as for the aggregate (overall) score.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.25 mark for every wrong attempt.

Except for the General English Test, the questions in objective tests will be bilingual, which means it will be in English and Hindi. There will be a 5% relaxation on qualification marks for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/XS candidates.

For general candidates, the passing marks will be decided by the banks. The merit list will be drawn state-wise and category-wise.

SBI Clerk Selection Stage 3: Phase 3 (Local Language Test)

Candidates who are not proficient in official and/or local languages would be disqualified. Those who provide a 10th standard mark sheet/certificate, giving the evidence they have studied the official (local) language, will not have to undergo a language test.

This selected local language test will begin before the joining process. If candidates fail this test, they will be rejected from the SBI Clerk Recruitment Process.

Provisional Selection

SBI will release a provisional merit list once all the phases are successfully conducted. The merit list shall be released state and category-wise. Candidates will get posted based on their city/state preference. Once the joining process is completed, the candidates cannot transfer for the next 5 years.

Waiting List

SBI will also release a waiting list of up to 50% state, vacancies, and category-wise. By scoring the least qualifying marks, candidates can be on the waiting list. This waitlist issued by the SBI will be valid for one year from the declaration of the final result of SBI Clerk 2023.

Probation Period

Candidates will have to serve a probation period of 6 months after the final selection. For the duration of 6 months, the Clerks/Junior Associates need to complete 15 authorized e-lessons.

  • Candidates who are unable to complete those 15 e-lessons in a given period will face an extended probation period.
  • Before the probation period ends, the performance of all the newly hired Clerks/Junior associates will be assessed according to the SBI Clerk Junior Associate Selection Process.
  • In case the recruited individuals fail to complete the expectations of the SBI, their probation period will be extended.
