Nationality

Candidates applying for SBI PO recruitment should fulfil the following eligibility criteria. They must be:

  1. Citizen of India
  2. The subject of Nepal or Bhutan
  3. Tibetan refugees who came to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanent settlement.
  4. Person of Indian Origin (PIO) who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam or East African countries of Zaire, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Ethiopia, and Malawi, with the intention of permanent settlement in India.

Note: Candidates belonging to categories 2, 3, and 4 must have a certificate of eligibility issued by the Govt. of India in their favour.

Age Limit and Relaxation

The age limit for general candidates in SBI PO eligibility criteria is 21 to 30 years as on April 1, 2023. However, the relaxations for various reserved categories are as follows:

Educational Qualification

Candidates who wish to apply for the SBI PO 2023 exam should meet any of the educational criteria listed below before filling in the online application form.

  • Candidates should have a Graduation or equivalent degree in any discipline from any University/ Educational Institution which is recognised by Central Government to apply for SBI PO.
  • Candidates who are in their final year/ semester can also fill in the SBI PO Application Form. But they have to show the passing certificate for their degree, which has been issued before December 31, 2023, during the SBI PO Interview.
  • Aspirants with an Integrated Dual Degree (IDD) must ensure that the date of passing is on or before December 31, 2023.
  • A Chartered Accountant or Cost Accountant candidate is also eligible to apply for the SBI PO recruitment.
  • No minimum marks are required in graduation for filling out the SBI PO application form.

Passing Date

  • The date of passing the degree examination is the date appearing on the mark sheet or provisional certificate from University/ Institute.
  • If the result of any examination is uploaded on the website of the University/ Institute and a certificate is provided by the appropriate University/Institute authority specifying the date the result was released on the website, that date will be considered the passing date.

Percentage Calculation

  • The percentage marks shall be calculated by dividing the total marks obtained by the candidate in all the subjects in all the semester(s)/ year(s) by aggregate maximum marks into all the subjects irrespective of Honours/ optional/ additional optional subject if any.
  • The above rule will also apply to those Universities where Class/ Grade is determined entirely on the basis of Honours marks.
  • The fraction of the percentage will be completely ignored and will not be rounded up, i.e. 59.99% will be treated as 59% and not 60%.
  • In the SBI PO 2023 form, candidates must have to specify the percentage of their graduation degree calculated to the nearest two decimals.
  • Where CGPA/ OGPA is awarded, the same percentage calculation rule should be used and mentioned on the SBI PO 2023 application form.
  • If invited for an interview, the candidate must show a certificate provided by the appropriate authority, specifying the University’s rules for converting grades into percentages and the percentage of marks scored by the candidate in accordance with these norms.

Number of Attempts

There is a limit to the number of attempts a candidate can have. The following chart gives details about the number of attempts permitted for aspiring candidates from various categories in the SBI PO exam.

Points to Remember

There are a few more things that candidates should keep in mind about the restrictions of attempts:

  • The number of attempts is different based on the category of the candidates.
  • Candidates who have crossed the Age Limit are ineligible to apply even if they have not exhausted their number of attempts.
  • The number of attempts will be counted from the examination held on and after 18.04.2010.
  • Appearing in only the Preliminary Examination will not be counted as an attempt.

Other Requirements

Following are a few aspects that are required for the candidates to follow:

  • Candidates with a record as defaulters in repayment of loans/ credit card dues / or have extremely negative reports of CIBIL or other external agencies in their name are not eligible for appointment.
  • Aspirants with an adverse report regarding their character & antecedents and moral turpitude are not eligible to apply for the post.

Eligibility for Reserved Categories

The eligibility criteria for Reserved Categories are as follows:

  • The candidates who don’t have any kind of certificate for their caste or category will fall under the General Category.
  • Those with a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe Certificate declared by the Indian Government should specify it in the SBI Application Form, but they will have to show it during the exam and interview process.
  • Under the Category of OBC, only the candidates coming under “Non-Creamy LAYER” will be treated as OBC.
  • Under the EWS category, the Benefit of reservation can be availed upon production of an ‘Income and Asset Certificate’ issued by a Competent Authority in the format prescribed by the Government of India.
  • Candidates who are under PwD Category need to mention their Caste if there is any.
  • They should indicate their category as ‘GEN’ or ‘GEN (LD)’ or ‘GEN (VI)’ or GEN (HI) or GEN (d&e) (as applicable).

Reservation for a Person with a Disability

SBI PO Eligibility Criteria offers a 4% horizontal reservation for people with Benchmark Disabilities.

Locomotor Disabilities (LD)

  • OA – One arm affected (Right or Left) 
  • OL – One leg affected (Right or Left)
  • OAL – One arm & One leg affected 
  • BL – Both legs were affected but not the arms
  • Leprosy cured person
  • Cerebral palsy

Note: Benchmark disability means that a person must have not less than 40% of the specified disability.

The candidates need not have any work experience to be eligible for the post. Fresh graduates can apply for the position of SBI PO exam.
