Given: Radius of curvature, R = 30 cm
Object distance, u=-20 cm
Height of object, h=5.0 cm Height of the image, h, = ?
We have, the focal length of a convex mirror f = R2 = 302 = 15 cm
Using mirror formula, 1f = 1v + 1u ⇒ 1v = 1f – 1u ⇒1v = 115 – 1-20 ⇒ v = 8.57 cm
From this, it is clear that the image is formed at 8.57 cm away back of the mirror and it is a virtual image.
Magnification, m =h,h =- vu =- 8.57-20 = 0.43
Since magnification is positive, the image will be erect.
Height of image, h’ = m × h = 0.43 × 5 = 2.15 cm
Therefore, the image formed will be virtual, erect and diminished.

Question: Find the focal length of a lens with power -2.0 diopter. What type of lens is this?

Answer: Given that power of lens, P=-2.0 D
Therefore, focal length of lens, f=1P=1-2=-0.5 m
Lens under consideration is a concave lens as the focal length and power are negative.

Question: Where should an object be placed in front of a convex lens to get a real image of the same size of the object?

Answer: When an object is placed at a distance, 2f in front of the convex lens, the image formed is:-
-At 2f on the other side of the lens
