JEE Main Counselling 2022: The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) is conducting the JEE Main 2022 counselling process. The counselling authorities started the registration on September 12, 2022. Candidates who have filled in their choices by September 20 can view and download the first round of seat allotment results which got released on September 23, 2022. In order to get admission in NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs, candidates qualified on the basis of JEE Main score should have applied for JEE Main 2022 counselling.
JEE Main counselling 2022 JoSAA includes steps such as registration, choice filling, locking of choices, seat allotment, and seat acceptance fee payment. Before the actual rounds of JEE main counselling 2022, JoSAA will also conduct two rounds of mock seat allotment of JEE Main to help students understand the process.

JEE Main 2022 Counselling: Overview
JoSAA established the Ministry of Education (Ministry of Human Resources Development [MHRD]) to supervise and control candidates’ admittance to various participating institutes. There is the provision of 114 institutes for the academic year 2022-23. About 23 IITs, 26 IIITs, IIEST Shibpur, 31 NITs, and 29 other government-funded technical institutes are included in this list (Other-GFTIs). JoSAA seat allotment results will happen on josaa.nic.in.
Remember that seat allocation will be done online, based on the applicant’s rank and category, availability of seats, and other factors. After the seat allocation process, applicants will have to report to their allotted institute for other procedures like document verification and fee payment.

JEE Counselling 2022: Seat Allotment Process
Candidates participating in JEE Counselling 2022 will undergo the step-wise procedure to fill their choice booking slot. Here are the detailed steps that candidates must go through to fill their choice and seat booking correctly.
Admission to all the academic programs offered by these institutes will be made through a single platform. Students clearing the cut-off marks will be eligible, and they will have to go through the following steps for JEE Main Counselling and seat allotment procedure:
Step 1: JEE Main 2022 Counselling Registration
Candidates have to visit the official website of JoSAA at josaa.nic.in. Log in using your JEE Main 2022 Application Number, Password, and Security Pin. Fill in the required details in your JEE Main counselling form from JoSAA. Select the declaration and click on Submit. Once you are done, verify all the details and click on the ‘Confirm Registration button.
Step 2: JEE Main 2022 Choice Filling and Locking
Candidates will then be asked to select the colleges from which they want to complete their graduation. The choice locking could be done till September 21, 2022 (till 5.00 p.m.). The colleges should be selected in the order of priority and preference of the candidates. The most preferred college should be selected first, and the least preferred option should be the last one on the list.
After selecting the choices, candidates have to lock the choices before the deadline. Please note that the choice locking can be edited after completing every JEE Main 2022 Counselling round.
Step 3: JoSAA Seat Allotment and Announcement of Rank List
Once a candidate has locked his preferences, JoSAA will start the college allotment to candidates depending on several factors:
The priority order is locked by the candidates for academic programs and institutes
Availability of seats under various categories or quotas for which the candidate is eligible
Please note that the candidates will get notified about their seat allotment by JoSAA on their registered email ID and mobile numbers. After completing the seat allotment process, they will have to select any one of the following options.
Float: If a candidate wishes to keep the allotted seat but wants to upgrade, they can choose this option.
Freeze: In case candidates are satisfied with their allocated seats and do not wish to participate in further rounds of counselling, they can select this option.
Slide: If candidates wish to accept the allotted seat but want to upgrade the programme in the same institute, they can select this option.
Withdraw: If any candidates have already accepted the allotted seat, they may withdraw the seat by reporting at the allotted institute before the final round of seat allotment.
Step 4: JEE Main 2022 Allotment Letter and Seat Acceptance Fee
After the seat allotment, candidates can download their Provisional Seat Allotment Letter. Once the seat allotment fee is paid, the officials will confirm the candidates’ seats under a particular JEE counselling round.
Please note that candidates can only pay their acceptance fees through the online payment mode. For open category candidates, the JEE Main counselling fee for seat acceptance is Rs. 35,000. For SC/ST/PwD, candidates have to pay INR 15,000/-.
Step 5: Reporting at the Allotted Institutes
Finally, the student will have to report to the allotted institute to confirm the time of admission. Aspirants have to report to the designated centre for physical document verification. If document verification fails, the candidate’s admission will be cancelled. Original documents and a set of photocopies will be required for submission.
Once you are done with the remaining procedures, the institute can obtain the final acknowledgement, and your admission will be confirmed.
JEE Main 2022 Cut-off
The JEE Main cut-off 2022indicates the required minimum marks to get admission to various engineering programs. The exam authorities will release the cut-off and the JEE Main 2022 result declaration. The cut-off can be segregated into two types – qualifying cut-off and admission cut-off.
