Learn KVPY Aptitude Test – Stream SA Exam Concepts
There are two stages of examination to avail the KVPY fellowship. The first stage is the Aptitude Test. Candidates can take the test in two languages – English and Hindi. Those who get the minimum cut-off marks in the written test are called for the second stage, which is the Interview. To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must pass both stages. For all three streams, the KVPY Aptitude Test is required.
Note: For 2023, the KVPY fellowship was awarded solely based on the Aptitude test without Interviews as a one-time measure.
There are two stages of the exam, namely:
– KVPY Marks Distribution – Students must attempt any 3 sections from Part 1 (20 x 3 = 60 marks) and any 2 sections from Part 2 = (20 x 2 = 40).
– KVPY Marking Scheme – In Part I of SB/SX Stream, one mark will be awarded for every correct response, and 0.25 marks will be deducted for every incorrect response. In Part II of Stream SB/ SX, two marks will be awarded for each correct response, and 0.5 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.
The KVPY SX Paper Pattern is as below:

The KVPY 2023 exam date will be announced soon. The final minutes before the exam are critical and must be used wisely. Keeping this in mind, we’ve compiled a list of KVPY last-minute recommendations to assist you in passing the exam and receiving a decent grade.
1. Work on Your Weak Points: During this time, you should concentrate on your weak areas, which are the chapters and ideas which you are having trouble with, particularly those that are critical for the exam. It’s necessary to work on your weak areas, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself.
2. Don’t Pick New Topics: One of the most critical last-minute KVPY advice is to avoid touching or selecting any new subject, as new topics will take longer to complete. Even if you spend time studying the subject, you still won’t be able to comprehend it completely. Instead, revise and master the topics that you have already completed.
3. Create a Sound Revision Strategy: Every second of these final days before the exam is crucial. As a result, you should devise and implement an effective revision process. Make a schedule – set aside time for each course and devote additional time to your weak areas. Revision of formulae, their derivations, equations, and so on should be given special attention.
These areas, if thoroughly reviewed, will give you an advantage over other exam applicants. Attempt KVPY Mock Tests & KVPY practice questions.
4. Previous Year Papers: Take a few KVPY practice tests and work through KVPY previous year papers. These will help you prepare for the actual exam. Furthermore, analysing your performance in these examinations will assist you in identifying your flaws and errors. You can then improve on them so that you don’t make the same mistakes in the exam.
5. Use Flowcharts And Flashcards for Revision: It is not practical to go over all the chapters for last-minute revision. Instead, review your notes, flowcharts, and flashcards. It will save a significant amount of time. Additionally, this method will also lead to improved memorization.
Stay Positive- You must remain confident and concentrated in order to translate your knowledge into exam marks. Allow no negative to stand in the way of achieving your goal.
We recommend completing the sections in the order shown below.
→ Biology (Either you know or you don’t. Great time saver) >
→ Chemistry (Direct questions from concepts. Some questions have calculations and some reactions require some time) >
→ Maths (You can always try option matching if you can’t solve)>
→ Physics (Best section to test your concepts. Give ample time to each problem. They often have small twists which is going to consume the time you had saved from the other three)
Practice KVPY Aptitude Test – Stream SA Exam Questions
Let’s take a look at KVPY study suggestions, essential plans, and tactics for each subject.
→ Physics: Because Physics is a subject that necessitates logical reasoning, you must fully comprehend all of the essential principles. Always double-check that your main principles are understood. You can solve any difficulty if you have a thorough comprehension of the ideas.
Furthermore, because Physics and Mathematics are intertwined, you must be able to utilise mathematical formulas to solve Physics problems. As many conceptual issues as possible should be practised. Theoretical Physics-related problems are commonly asked in KVPY. As a result, make sure you thoroughly prepare for those questions.
→ Mathematics: To gain confidence in the subject, solve as many mathematical questions as you can. Mathematics is incomplete without formulas. As a result, you must have all of the key formulas on the tip of your fingers. Theorems and findings are important in addition to formulas.
Note down all of the key axioms, theorems, and principles. Visualisation is also required in Mathematics, as shown in 3D vectors, graphs, and curves. So, in addition to answering questions, practise visualising shapes. KVPY will also ask questions based on IQ. As a result, be ready for that as well.
→ Chemistry: Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry are the three divisions of Chemistry. You must give each of them the same amount of weight. In Organic Chemistry, revision is essential. Start with the themes and make a list of all the major chemical reactions. After that, give some practice questions a shot.
Inorganic Chemistry necessitates a great deal of memorisation. So, choose this first thing in the morning, when your brain is the most active. For Inorganic, NCERT books will be your best buddies. Make a thorough review of all of the themes and concepts, as well as a list of them.
You must solve questions in Physical Chemistry. As a result, keep all of the relevant formulas in mind and practise as many questions as possible on each topic. Again, the best alternative for you will be to consult NCERT books.
→ Biology: You must concentrate on the diagrams and labels in Biology. For KVPY Biology, NCERT books are sufficient. Don’t waste your time looking through other reference books. Make a list of all of the key elements and go through them again and again.
Also, make sure you have flow charts and shortcuts to master crucial concepts in your notes. In Biology, multiple-choice questions are essential. As a result, practise as many MCQs as possible.

Highlights Of KVPY Cut-off
Take note of the following points:
Reading and understanding NCERT texts is one of the greatest strategies to prepare for the KVPY aptitude test 20022, according to every topper. The KVPY exam assesses pupils’ basic comprehension of mathematical and scientific foundations. As a result, it is necessary to comprehend all the concepts thoroughly and carefully.
The KVPY exam is easy for 20% of the time, moderate for 60% of the time, and difficult for 20% of the time. Students should begin with easy and moderate questions before moving on to the more difficult ones. This straightforward strategy will assist you in appropriately answering a variety of questions.
Students must also prepare for interviews. A panel of specialists of highly experienced academicians and scientists interviews students. The duration of the interview can range from 45 minutes to an hour. The panel will pose questions regarding Science in general, as well as actual demonstrations of mirrors, magnets, and other theories.
The KVPS topper list 2020 is provided in the table below:
The program’s goal is to discover students with research skills and aptitudes, assist them in realising their academic potential, encourage them to pursue research careers in Science, and aid in the country’s development of the best scientific brains for research and development.
Students are chosen from grades XI to 1st year of any undergraduate program in Basic Sciences, such as B.Sc./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology who have a strong interest in scientific research. At IISc, special groups/committees are formed to screen applications and conduct aptitude tests at various locations around the country.
Shortlisted students are invited to an interview, which is the final stage of the selection process, based on their performance on the aptitude test. Both aptitude tests and interview scores are taken into account when deciding on a fellowship. The most challenging decision for any student after the 12th grade is settling on an appropriate professional path.
When it comes down to deciding upon a career path, students are sometimes caught between following the herd and enrolling in the most popular courses, choosing a degree based on what their parents require, or just following their friends and choosing that specific job path. A majority of students choose courses without first examining their own abilities, weaknesses, and passions.
An aspiring KVPY candidate can make a note of the following points to crack the KVPY exam. Aligning preparations for KVPY with other exams Subject-wise preparation Solving previous question papers Time management Practising online test Studying from the recommended books for KVPY 2023 Maintaining a notebook for important formula
Parents must understand that not every youngster is suited for a career as a doctor, an engineer, or an accountant. They should not force a student to pursue a career path simply because it is popular. Parents may seek the assistance of a career consultant, who may help students identify their talents and recommend career options that are appropriate for them.
As their own expectations from their children rise, parents become nervous and stress the kid. This puts the student under even more mental stress. That is something that parents should never do to their children.

Let us hear from Rishit Shrivastava, the topper of the KVPY-Stream SX 2020 exam, about her experience.
Q. Tell us about yourself, your school, your education, and so on.
A. I am a student of DDPS in Kota, and I am now studying for the JEE Advanced exam.
Q. Congratulations on your KVPY 2020 exam performance! What was your reaction when you found out?
A. Thank you so much; I was extremely pleased with the result. I was hoping for a top-ten ranking.
Q. How long have you known about the KVPY exam?
A. I’ve known about it since I was in elementary school because it’s a prestigious exam. In Class 11, I took the KVPY test for the first time and received an AIR of 27.
Q. Tell us about your daily routine and exam preparation approach for KVPY.
A. My regular routine involves attending morning classes. Following that, I study for the board and the JEE exam. I also play badminton on a daily basis. If someone is already studying for the JEE Advanced, KVPY, in my opinion, does not require any further preparation. I concentrated more on concepts and answered problems of greater difficulty in JEE Advanced, as well as National and International Olympiads.
Q. How has the COVID-19 pandemic influenced your planning?
A. It had no significant impact on my preparation because my online lessons and regular tests began in April.
Q. Did you prepare for the KVPY test by practising previous year papers and practice papers?
A. Before taking the KVPY exam, I solved a few previous year sample papers.

Harshil Vagadia, a citizen of Rajkot, Gujarat, secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 3. He is from the General Category and debuted in the SX Stream. We’ve learnt from KVPY topper Harshil Vagadia that students must have conceptual clarity rather than memorising the KVPY syllabus in an interview.
He discusses his exam preparation tactics and the importance of time management. He also stated that the previous years’ questions are the most important weapon for success. In this KVPY topper interview, Harshil claims that cracking the KVPY test is not difficult if one is already studying for JEE or AIIMS because the syllabus is nearly identical.
Q. Congratulations on being the KVPY 2018 topper! How are you feeling?
A. I am ecstatic that I received such a high score in KVPY. It’s encouraging to realise that all of your hard work has paid off.
Q. Tell us about yourself.
A. My hometown is Rajkot, Gujarat. I spent two years in Kota, where I was studying for the JEE exam. This year, I finished my 12th grade. I enjoy computer programming in addition to my schooling. I enjoy reading novels as well. My father owns a business, while my mother works in the education sector.
Q. How did you become aware of KVPY?
A. I learned about KVPY from student conversations. I learned that it was a nationwide exam, so I decided to take it. I appeared for KVPY in both 11th and 12th grade.
Q. When did you start your KVPY preparation? Did you join any coaching institutes?
A. I did not explicitly prepare for KVPY. I continued my JEE preparation and gave the KVPY exam along the
Q. Did you practice the previous years’ KVPY exam papers? How did that help you?
A. I solved the question papers of the past 3 years for practice. They helped me tremendously as they gave me an idea about exam patterns and time management.
Q. What was your exam day strategy? How did you prepare for it on a daily basis?
A. I decided to attempt section 1 first and then section 2. I attempted PCM in section 1 and PC in section 2. The number of questions is more so one needs to be fast and accurate. Also, the computers can be slow during online exams so one needs to be prepared for that. The best way to practice this is to solve the past years’ papers.
Q. Tell us about your interview experience. What was the total number of people on the panel? What kinds of questions did they ask?
A. The interview panel generally consists of 7-8 members. They asked conceptual questions which usually don’t involve much calculation. The topics were the ones I had written in the self-appraisal form. All the subjects were given equal weightage. The interview lasted for 20 minutes. All the questions were academic and no personal questions were asked.
Q. Share some KVPY exam preparation tips for future aspirants?
A. In KVPY, a lot of conceptual questions are asked so students must practice them instead of rote learning. During the KVPY interview, it is important to be confident. Major weightage is given to the aptitude test, so students must focus on that. Best of luck to all future KVPY aspirants.

Exam anxiety is a somewhat regular occurrence. Parents have a critical role in assisting kids with coping with stress and studying for exams in a more relaxed manner. Parents should understand how stress affects their children and what they can do to help them relax. What is the cause of such extreme stress? Many parents still don’t comprehend or empathise with their children’s difficulties. So, let’s analyse exam stress and give teens the emotional support they need.
Below are a few ways for parents to help their kids beat the exam stress.
It’s difficult to concentrate on studies while they’re under stress. Simply sit next to them and assist them with their studies. However, don’t be on your phones while sitting next to them.
1. Avoid Isolation
It’s a smart idea to leave children alone in a room while they study to make them feel calm and more focused. However, do not leave them alone for an extended time.
2. Talk to them
Talk to your kids openly, honestly and often. Let them know that they can come to you for help and information, and remind them that you are there to share resources and provide support.
3. Love and support
Show them that you care, love, and support them to enhance their motivation and confidence. Make it clear to them that your shoulders are always available to lean on. Also, let them realise that examinations aren’t the end of the road for them.
4. Don’t compare them to other kids
Every teen is unique in their own way, as are their hobbies. Don’t make comparisons between them and others. It may make them feel even worse and demotivate them.
