IISERs offer Five-year dual degree integrated BS-MS Program for science students. 3. Doctoral Programme (PhD): Admission to the doctoral programme requires a master’s degree in science. It is notable that IISER Mohali has an active Humanities & Social Sciences Department, which too offers PhD positions.

IISER Courses 2020 – General Pattern

IISERs offer mainly Integrated B.S.-M.S, Integrated Doctoral, and Doctoral Programme (PhD) in the field of interdisciplinary science education and research. The courses offered by the IISERs during the first two years (semesters I to IV) of course work are meant as basic courses common and mandatory for all students. But these courses are meant to give a flavour of the various approaches and analyses as well as to prepare them for advanced courses in later years of study. In the third and fourth years (semesters V-VIII), students can choose advanced courses based on their interest.

The courses offered in the first two years would help them to make an informed judgment to determine their real interest. Students also have thedom to choose advanced courses from more than one discipline in order to achieve interdisciplinary expertise. In the fifth year of study, the students have to prepare and submit a thesis by research which completes the requirements of the program.
