BENGALURU, September 17: JEE Advanced 2020 exam is scheduled to be conducted on May 17. Indian Institute of Technology Delhi will organise the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Advanced) in 2020 for admissions to nearly 11,279 B.Tech. seats in 23 IITs all over the country. Along with the declaration of exam dates, several other key decisions were taken by IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB) meeting was held on September 15.
In a meeting of IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB) has taken several key decisions regarding more test takers in JEE Advanced 2020, addition of exam centers and changes in exam timing.
What’s New in JEE Advanced 2020:
More number of test takers for JEE Advanced 2020 –
JEE Advanced 2020 will see the increase in number of takers. As per the report 10,000 more candidates will be shortlisted for appearing in JEE Advanced 2020 based on their performance in JEE Main. JEE Advanced 2020 a total of 2,50,000 students (including all categories) will be shortlisted to appear in the exam. Till last year, top 2,40,000 candidates from JEE Main were deemed eligible for appearing in the JEE Advanced exam.
Changes in JEE Advanced 2020 Paper II examination time –
The examination conducting board has decided to make slight changes in the examination timing of JEE Advanced 2020 Paper 2. The first paper of JEE (Advanced) will start at 9.00 a.m. and end at 12 noon (IST). The second paper will be conducted from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. (IST). Earlier, the examination time for JEE Advanced paper II was 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Prof Siddharth Pandey, Organizing Chairman, JEE (Advanced) 2020, “Paper 2 that used to start at 2 p.m. earlier, is now scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. This is to allow students, especially the PwD candidates, more time between the two papers. This will also help in conducting biometric verification at the centers in timely manner.”
Addition of JEE Advanced 2020 Exam Centers –
JEE Advanced 2020 will be also conducted in United States. For the first time, the exam to be conducted in United States and for this purpose, an examination center will be set up in San Francisco area. JEE Advanced 2020 exam is now conducted in five countries worldwide and USA has been added to the list. Till last year, apart from India, JEE Advanced were also conducted at Dubai (UAE), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Kathmandu (Nepal), Singapore and Colombo (Sri Lanka).
Speaking about the decisions taken by the IIT JAB, Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, said, “JEE Advanced is an examination conducted by all IITs for admission to IITs. IITs have taken a conscious decision to encourage cultural diversity on their campuses. US has benefitted significantly by the presence of a large number of IIT alumni there and there is considerable awareness in the US about IITs. Conducting JEE in the bay area is a logical thing to do.”
The IIT Joint Admission Board has decided to discontinue the exam centers in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and Colombo (Sri Lanka) for JEE Advanced 2020 due to absence of candidates in these two cities.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) the examination authority organises JEE (Main) while IIT organises JEE Advanced under the guidance of IIT JAB. Earlier, NTA has announced the JEE Main 2020 exam dates for January and April sessions. According to the notification, JEE Main 2020 January session exam will be conducted on January 6 to 11, 2020 while April session is scheduled from April 3 to 9, 2020.
