In addition to both these stages, language proficiency test has now been implemented. It is important to mention here that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has scrapped interview from the recruitment process.
RBI Assistant Exam Pattern
RBI Assistant Notification for the year 2020 has been issued. As per the RBI Assistant Notification 2020, Reserve Bank of India invites applications from eligible candidates for 926 posts of “Assistant” in various offices of the Bank. Selection for the post will be through a nationwide competitive examination in two stages i.e. Preliminary and Main examination followed by a Language Proficiency Test (LPT).

RBI Assistant Pay Scale
|Assistants recruited at RBI will draw a starting basic pay of ₹ 14650/- per month |
(i.e. ₹ 13,150/- plus two advance increments admissible
to Graduates) in the scale of ₹ 13150 – 750(3) – 15400 – 900(4) – 19000 – 1200(6) – 26200 – 1300(2) – 28800 –1480(3)
– 33240 – 1750(1) – 34990 (20 years) and
other allowances, viz Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, City Compensatory Allowance, Transport Allowance etc. as admissible from time to time. At present, initial monthly Gross emoluments for Assistants is approximately ₹36,091/-.
RBI Assistant Eligibility Criteria
- A Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks (pass class for SC/ST/PWD candidates) in the aggregate and the knowledge of word processing on PC.
- A candidate belonging to Ex-servicemen category (except dependents of ex-servicemen) should either be a graduate from a recognized University or should have passed the matriculation or its equivalent examination of the Armed Forces and rendered at least 15 years of defence service.
- Candidates applying for the post in a particular recruiting office should be proficient in the language (i.e. know to read, write, speak and understand the language) of the state/ any of the states falling under the recruiting office.
RBI Assistant Preliminary Exam Pattern 2020
The preliminary (Prelims) examination has three sections:
- Reasoning Ability
- Numerical Ability and
- English Language.

RBI Assistant LPT Exam Pattern
RBI’s latest notification announces a new change in RBI Exam Pattern for Assistants. Candidates will have to appear for a Language Proficiency Test (LPT). As the name suggests, this is a test to test your proficiency in your Regional Language. The regional language is the local language of the region where you will be posted. Candidates who are not proficient in the Local Language will be disqualified. The local language that will be tested as per the official notification is given below:

RBI Assistant Negative Marking
There will be negative marks for wrong answers in the Objective tests (Preliminary and Main examination). 1/4th marks will be deducted for each wrong answer. No marks will be deducted if the question is left unanswered or blank. Never ever give the blind guesses in the examination. Just keep in mind about the negative marking. Solve the questions confidently and then just make sure that the answer is correct or not.
Important points for RBI Assistant Exam 2020
- There will be no Interview.
- Candidates will have to pass in each of the objective tests of the online examinations.
- Both the prelims and mains exam will be conducted online.
- A candidate has to qualify in Preliminary Examination for appearing in Main Examination.
- The question paper will be bilingual in nature i.e. available in Hindi as well as the English language.
- The Cutoff of RBI Assistant of prelims and mains exam will be decided by RBI.
