How to Make Notes for IIT JEE 2021: Good notes are worth their weight in gold. Taking good notes during classes is the only way to make the most of your expensive coaching classes.

Students, have you ever wondered what’s the best way to write notes? We spoke to Prof Anwar Sheik, who has more than 15 years of experience to give us suggestions on what is required to make some kick ass notes.

Here is the comprehensive “How to” of note-taking. Let’s start with the basics.

How to Make Short Notes for IIT JEE 2021 – Basics

These are the things that every student should know when making a notes for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced exam. It is useful to be systematic whenever you are taking notes.

Use different color of pens.

A human eye is more receptive to color. This is why it makes it easier to remember your notes if you highlight the important points with a different color. For example, the way to do this would be to highlight definitions with blue pen, formulae with yellow marker and the exceptions to the formulae or things to be careful of in red marker.

Different notebooks for different subjects.

It is important for your notes to be well organized. Keep the notes of each subject in a different notebook. (Don’t be cheap!) Also, make sure you have an index page where you note the chapters that are covered in these notes. Because most probably, one book might not be enough for 2 years worth of notes. So make sure your notes are well organized so that you can find what you need when you need to revise.

Don’t repeat textbook notes

For this bit, you need to know what is in your textbook. So read your textbook thoroughly. After that, note down all the insights your professor gives which is not in your textbooks. Use embibe to get easy access to all concepts included in your textbooks to refer.

With these basics out of the way, let’s get into

3 things you must do to make the perfect notes

Leave 2 pages for future learnings!

Your learning is never complete in the first class. In the future you will definitely learn something more about the topic, maybe through online resources like embibe or even through discussing with your friends.

So what happens when you learn something new? If you do not leave space when you first write notes, you would probably end up writing down what you learnt on the back of the book, or worse in a different notebook altogether. Your notes will become fragmented, thoda idhar, thoda udhar, and you will not have the patience to go searching for it through your different notebooks when you need to revise. You may not even remember where it is!

So keep 2-3 pages blank before starting out any new chapter. Thank us later.

Leave ONE page for things you learn from Questions

That’s right, one more. Once the class is over and you’re finished with theory, what next? Questions! You will be solving a lot of questions on the road to the JEE. Solving a large number of questions will teach you how to solve as quickly as possible. You will figure out the approach to a certain type of questions.

For example, to find the acceleration on a rolling body, you must first find its moment of inertia and the torque from the different forces acting on the body. These kind of guidelines or learnings you can write down in one page after your notes.

Highlight exceptions and limitations of formulae.

Memorization of concepts and formulas doesn’t always help. For an exam like the JEE, the exceptions to a rule are the most important. You should know when to apply a formula, and most importantly, when you can’t.

There are many formulae that are derived based on assumptions that are not always valid. For example all of newton’s equations of motion assume uniform acceleration or inertial systems. So what happens if JEE asks a question of non uniform acceleration? You will be tricked into getting the wrong answer if you use the same formulaes!
