JEE Advanced Preparation 2022: Know Exam Preparation Tips

Here are some of the best JEE Advanced preparation tips that you can bank upon to ace the exam with flying colours:

  • Start Now: You’ll have very little time left after you’re done with JEE Main. So begin your preparation at the earliest. Prepare a neat schedule with some time dedicated every day for JEE Advanced. Also, while starting, stop doing these things.
  • Practice Previous Year Questions: When you learn a chapter, e.g., Work, Power and Energy, you definitely need to spend 2 hours practising questions of that chapter. What would really help is to practice questions from the previous years’ papers.
  • Time Maintenance: The speed at which you solve the JEE Advanced practice questions is crucial. Even though the questions will be tough, you’ve got to solve them quickly. Don’t take half an hour per question. That won’t help in the exam!

If you have three hours for 90 questions, it means 2 minutes per question, right?

Nope.

If only it were that easy! The time you need per question depends on the student’s ability and subject. And more importantly, you need to learn how to attempt a question. To make matters easier, here is an example for each subject with explanations from our in-house expert.

Chemistry—Spend 1 Minute Per Question

  • Reason – Questions are largely theory-based. For example, inorganic chemistry often contains theory-based questions that can be easily solved at one glance, and Eg is the most electronegative element.

You can ask any doubts you may have about chemistry in the comments!

Maths—Spend 2 Minutes Per Question

  • Reason – Though some questions can be very difficult and require a lot of time, you should be able to identify (and save time in) those questions where you can use shortcuts.

Here is a super simple example – If you are asked to integrate a function, it might be simpler just to differentiate each of the options and see which differentiation returns the equation in the question.

Physics—Spend 3 Minutes Per Question

  • Reason– The questions may not be as difficult as math as it depends on the student) but there are fewer shortcuts available. However, questions in physics tend to be similar.

For example – Most questions involving friction on an inclined plane are similar and require a similar approach. There are only a few variables that they can ask you to find, eg. The amount of friction, acceleration of a block, etc. Similarly, questions from any chapter only ask you to solve for 3 or 4 variables. (Eg. electrostatics questions you will usually ask yourself about the charge on a body or the potential.)
