Chemistry For IIT JEE : Chemistry is the most scoring subject among PCM, in which JEE aspiring students can get 100% if their foundation in the concepts is strong. Most of the questions are comparatively easier in the Chemistry section than the other subjects in IIT JEE.
The different parts of chemistry have a slightly different approach which is to be followed. In the case of organic chemistry practising the chemical equations, reactions and mechanism will help you out. For physical chemistry, you need good conceptual knowledge and regular practice. In the case of organic chemistry, you need to be good at memorizing. Learning and practising the way out for this section. In this article, we will provide you all the information regarding how to prepare Chemistry for IIT JEE Exam 2019.
How to Prepare Chemistry for IIT JEE | Important Steps
If scoring higher is your goal, follow the following steps to ensure that you leave no stone unturned in your endeavour to crack IIT JEE Chemistry:
- Focus on all 3 parts – Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry.
- Periodic Table is a must-to-know.
- Understand complete reaction mechanism.
- Learn formulas thoroughly.
- Give extra attention to d- block elements, f-block elements and co-ordination compounds.
- Make personal notes
Check out this video where Himanshu Pandey, one of the most experienced teachers for JEE Chemistry, talks about how to score maximum in the Chemistry section of JEE in these last days before the exam:
Step 1: Focus on all 3 Parts – Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry
Always remember, all three parts of chemistry are interconnected; you can’t ignore any part. You should have strong hold on each part if you want to score good marks in this subject.
Start with Physical Chemistry before moving on to Inorganic and Organic Section.
Step 2: Periodic Table is a Must-to-Know
If you are just starting to study Chemistry, I would suggest you post a large-sized poster of the Periodic Table in your study room.
Step 3: Understand Complete Reaction Mechanism
Don’t ever try to remember any reaction; that is not a good practice. Try to understand complete mechanism behind each and every reaction. Especially for Organic Chemistry, it is very important to completely understand mechanism of reactions.
Step 4: Learn Formulae Thoroughly
You must memorise all the formulae of Chemical Bonding, Equilibrium, Kinetics, and Radioactivity.
Step 5: Give Extra Attention to D- Block Elements, F-Block Elements and Co-Ordination Compounds
Most of the questions that come from p and s block elements are easy to solve. I will suggest you to pay extra attention to co-ordination compounds and d-block elements. For more information, read this article.
Step 6: Make Personal Notes
This is not important only for Chemistry but for all subjects if you are seriously preparing for JEE examination. Know how to create your own personalised notes, and here’s how you can make notes for revision.
You are now aware of how to prepare for chemistry for IIT JEE. Gear up your preparation and develop the habit of regular revision. Take JEE mock Tests and go through the test analysis to know your weaknesses. Work on your weaknesses and improve your score. As and when you keep preparing each chapter, take chapter-wise JEE Practice Tests to strengthen your basics.
