NDA Exam 2022: The Union Public Service Commission conducts the National Defence Academy or NDA exam twice a year for admission to the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings of the NDA, as well as the Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC). The NDA 1 exam is conducted for admission to the January batch. On the other hand, NDA 2 exam is held for admission to the July batch.

NDA Syllabus 2022

NDA syllabus comprises topics from Mathematics and General Ability Test (GAT). The level of the syllabus is of Classes 10, 11, and 12 standards. Candidates can check below the topics included in the syllabus:

NDA Exam Eligibility Criteria 2022

As per the official notification of NDA Exam 2022, the following are the conditions of eligibility for the candidates who can apply for this exam:


A candidate must be an unmarried male/ female and must be:

(i) a citizen of India, or

(ii) a subject of Nepal, or

(iii) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam intending to settle in India permanently.

Age Limits, Sex and Marital Status

An unmarried candidate (male/ female) aged between 16.5 years to 19 years can apply for the NDA exam. Only unmarried male/ female candidates born not earlier than 02nd July 2003 and not later than 1st July 2006 were eligible to apply for NDA-1 2022. 

Educational Qualifications

(i) For Army Wing of National Defence Academy: A candidate should have passed 12th Class of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

(ii) For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy: A candidate should have passed Class 12th with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics of the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent conducted by a State Education Board or a University.

Note: Candidates appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination are also eligible to apply for NDA examination. 

Physical Standards

Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to the National Defence Academy and Naval Academy Examination (I), 2022, as per guidelines given in Appendix-IV of the official notification released by the authorities.

Disciplinary Grounds

A candidate who has resigned or withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from any of the training academies of the Armed Forces is not eligible to apply. 

NDA Vacancy 2022

The total number of vacancies to be recruited through the NDA 2 exam has been released along with the official notification of the UPSC NDA 2022 exam on 18th May 2022. As per NDA 2 2022 Notification, a total of 400 vacancies will be recruited for, National Defence Academy (NDA) and Naval Academy (NA) out of which 370 belong to NDA and the remaining 30 for NA. NDA 2022 Selection Process

The Commission conducts the NDA exam in two stages: a written test and an SSB Interview. Candidates can check out the NDA selection process and its stages below:

  • Written Exam: The written exam is the first stage of the selection process. Candidates who obtain the minimum qualifying marks will be eligible to appear in the next round of selection.
  • SSB Interview: The SSB Interview is the second stage of the NDA selection process. The SSB Interview tests are used to assess the candidate’s intelligence and personality. The SSB Interview is also conducted in two stages. The first round is taken by the Centres/Air Force Selection Boards/Naval Selection Boards. Only candidates who qualify the first round are eligible to appear in the second interview round.
  • Medical Examination: This stage of the NDA selection process is qualifying in nature. Candidates should be medically fit and must qualify for this stage of the selection.
  • Final Merit List: The NDA final merit list is prepared on the basis of marks scored in the written exam and SSB Interview. The final allocation will be determined by the availability of vacancies, fulfilling eligibility criteria, medical fitness, and merit-cum-preferences.
