The candidates shortlisted for SBI PO posts will have to go through training sessions regarding basic banking knowledge before joining as Probationary Officer.
At the time of joining, the candidates will have to sign a bond of Rs. 2 lakhs and serve the bank for a minimum of three years.
After the conclusion of the probation period, candidates will be confirmed as Junior Manager Grade Scale I (JMGS-I).
The candidates will be given training in various departments like Finance, Marketing, Billing, Accounting & Investment to help them gain practical knowledge.
The POs will be responsible for certain Managerial tasks such as supervising the work of Bank clerks, verification of documents, managing cash balance, being aware of the latest developments in the bank, etc.
Once the POs are sufficiently experienced and trained, they are given more responsibilities like Budgeting, Loan Processing, Loan Approvals, Marketing, and Planning & Managing Investments.
On successful completion of the two year probation period serving as a SBI PO, the candidates will be eligible for promotion for these below mentioned positions:

SBI PO Roles and Responsibilities
As SBI POs, employees are expected to perform several duties to get promotions and grow in their banking career. A few of these SBI PO career responsibilities are given below.
After successful completion of the probation, the PO is posted in any of the nation-wide SBI branches as an Assistant Bank Manager to handle work on daily customer transactions such as passing a cheque, draft issuance, cash management etc.
The employee has to work towards increasing the bank business via managing cash flow, loans and mortgages and finances.
The PO also has to discharge their duty as a Public Relations Officer, handle customer complaints and address various customer related issues such as discrepancies in accounts, rectification of undue charges.
Once the employee gets acclimated to the bank environment and gains enough experience on the bank’s SOPs, they can be assigned more responsible work based on their personal skills and aptitude such as planning, budgeting, marketing, loan processing and approval, investment management etc.
The work of a PO also includes managerial tasks, such as supervision of clerical work, taking decisions for the benefit of the bank, managing cash balance etc.
PO also has to verify all the work done by the bank clerk. All the transactions of a bank involve the role of maker and checker. The responsibility of losses resides with the checker.
They also have to take care of the loan related documents and perform on-site visits of the loan taking parties as and when required.

The S.B.I. P.O. salary is set as per the Bipartite Settlement.
The S.B.I. P.O. Basic pay scale is Rs. 41960-980 (7) – 48820 – 1145 (2) – 51110 – 1310 (7) – 60280 as applicable for Junior Management Grade Scale I.
The starting basic pay will be Rs. Rs.27,620/- with 4 advance increments.
Apart from the basic pay, candidates will also be eligible for various allowances and other benefits.
Considering basic pay and allowances, the total in-hand salary will be around Rs. 40000/- to Rs. 45000/- based on the location of posting and other factors.
