Solution: The development of male gametophytes occurs from pollen grains (microspore). Female gametophyte (embryo sac) develops from megaspore in the ovule.
Q2. Arrange the following terms in the correct developmental sequence: Pollen grain, sporogenous tissue, microspore tetrad, pollen mother cell, male gametes.

Q3. What is meant by the monosporic development of female gametophyte?
Solution: When the female gametophyte (embryo sac) develops from a single megaspore, it is called the monosporic development of the female gametophyte.
In the flowering plants, a single megaspore mother cell which is present at the micropylar pole of the nucleus region of the ovule undertakes meiosis which leads to four haploid megaspores.
Out of the four megaspores, only one functional megaspore develops into the female gametophyte, while the remaining three degenerate.
The nucleus of the functional megaspore undergoes successive mitotic divisions to form 8 haploid nuclei.
