CBSE Class 12 Biology Chapter 1: Chapter Summary
Every organism is mortal (except single-celled organisms) and has a certain period of time that it can exist on this planet. This whole duration of the existence of the organism is called a life span. The life span can vary from days to years. You cannot tell that organisms with greater size have a higher life span. For example, a parrot and a crow have the same size but both of them have a huge difference in their life span. Reproduction ensures that the species lives (its genes are passed on to the next generation) and do not go extinct.
Reproduction is a biological process where organisms produce their offspring. The offspring then again grows, mature and produces its own offspring and eventually dies. This cycle of birth, growth, and death continues. There are two types of the reproduction process, one is asexual reproduction while the other one is sexual reproduction. When the offspring is produced from a single offspring then it is asexual reproduction whereas when a male and a female organism is involved in the process of producing the offspring, it is sexual reproduction. In this chapter, you are going to read more about sexual and asexual reproduction.
