Is JEE Mains More Difficult or Easier Than JEE Advanced? The National Testing Agency conducted the JEE Main exam in June and July this year, whereas the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, organised JEE Advanced exam on August 28, 2022. Candidates can appear for JEE Advanced exam only if they qualify JEE Main exam with a minimum score set by the exam conducting authority. Those who qualify for JEE Advanced exam become eligible for admission to various undergraduate professional courses in the 23 IITs of the country.
The candidates applying for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) often have many doubts regarding the two stages of the exam. They often have queries about the difficulty levels of the two exams. Some of the most commonly asked questions about the difficulty level of these exams are, ‘Is JEE Mains easy or tough?’, Is JEE Advanced easier than Mains?’, ‘Is JEE Mains easier than NEET?’, etc. This article will answer all these questions about JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams. Continue reading to learn all about the difference between the difficulty level of the two exams and know if JEE is easy or hard.
– NTA has declared JEE Main 2022 session 2 paper 2 results on its portal on September 1, 2022. Aspirants can check the same using their credentials.
Before comparing the difficulty level of the two exams, let us read about the two examinations in detail. This will help you know what JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams are.
JEE Main Exam 2022
The JEE Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency and comprises two papers. JEE Main Paper 1 is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E/ B.Tech.) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and Institutions or universities funded or recognised by participating state governments. JEE Main is also an eligibility test for JEE Advanced, which is organised for admission to IITs.
JEE Main Paper 2 is conducted for admission to the country’s B. Arch and B. Planning courses. Various institutions use the score sheet of JEE Main for admission to the B.Tech/ M.Tech (Integrated)/ B.Arch courses in the affiliated colleges across the country. The exam dates for JEE Main are already out on the official website of NTA. The exam was conducted in two sessions this year. JEE Main Session 1 was conducted from June 23 to 29, 2022, whereas Session 2 took place from July 25 to 30, 2022.
JEE Advanced Exam 2022
The seven zonal coordinating IITs conduct the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced or JEE Advanced under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). IIT Bombay conducted JEE Advanced 2022 on August 28, 2022. A candidate’s performance in JEE Advanced 2022 will form the basis for admission to the Bachelor, Integrated Masters, and Dual Degree programs (entry at the 10+2 level) in all the IITs in the academic year 2022-23.
The JEE Advanced examination consists of two papers (Paper 1 and Paper 2) of three hours duration each. It is compulsory for the candidates to appear in both papers for the exam. IIT Bombay has also released the examination schedule for Paper 1 and Paper 2 on the official website of JEE Advanced 2022. On August 28, 2022, Paper 1 took place from 09:00 IST to 12:00 IST, and Paper 2 was held from 14:30 IST to 17:30 IST.
As we discussed earlier, JEE Main is the first stage of the Joint Entrance Examination. Only the candidates who can achieve a certain score in JEE Main, as decided by the exam conducting body, become eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced exam. So basically, JEE Main serves as a screening test for the second stage of the exam, i.e. JEE Advanced exam. As JEE Advanced exam is the second exam stage, it is quite difficult to crack compared to JEE Main exam.
So, if you aim to get into one of the IITs, you will need to study in an integrated manner to crack the JEE Advanced Exam. You will have to build a strong foundation of all the topics’ basic concepts while completing the JEE Advanced syllabus. Let us compare the syllabus of JEE Main and JEE Advanced in detail to understand the difficulty levels of the two exams.
You can also check the comparison of the syllabus prescribed for JEE Main and JEE Advanced to understand the difference between the difficulty level of the two exams. Here are the most frequently asked questions about the difficulty level of JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams:
Q.1: Is JEE Mains easy or tough?
Ans: JEE Mains is an engineering entrance exam for admission to NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and institutions or universities funded or recognised by participating state governments. As it is an engineering entrance exam, we cannot say that it is easy. However, it is not as difficult as it is perceived to be. Your performance also depends on the amount of time and effort you put into your preparation.
Q.2: Is JEE Mains harder than JEE Advanced exam?
Ans: Qualifying JEE Mains makes a candidate eligible to appear for JEE Advanced exam. As JEE Main is a screening test for the next stage or level of the Joint Entrance Exam, it is certainly easier than JEE Advanced exam.
Q.3: Is JEE Mains easier than NEET?
Ans: NEET exam is more competitive than JEE Main exam as the number of seats is very limited for admission to medical programmes compared to engineering and architecture programmes offered through JEE Main. So, NEET is considered a little more challenging than JEE Main yet easier than JEE Advanced exam as that makes the candidates eligible for admission to IITs, and the total available seats are also very limited there.
Q.4: Is JEE Advanced easier than Mains?
Ans: No, JEE Advanced is more difficult than JEE Mains due to many reasons. The major factors that make JEE Advanced more challenging are the concept-based questions asked in JEE Advanced compared to formula-based questions asked in JEE Mains. Read more about the comparison of JEE Main and JEE Advanced in the article above.
Q.5: What is the difference between JEE Mains and JEE Advanced exams?
Ans: JEE Main is conducted by the National testing agency for admission to NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and Institutions or universities funded or recognised by participating state governments. On the other hand, JEE Advanced is conducted by the seven Zonal Coordinating IITs under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) for admission to 23 IITs in India. JEE Main serves as a screening test for JEE Advanced Exam. Read more about the comparison of JEE Main and JEE Advanced in the article above.
Q.6: How tough is JEE Advanced compared to JEE Main?
Ans: It is believed that JEE Advanced is more difficult when compared to JEE Main exam. The syllabus of JEE Advanced exam includes several topics outside the syllabus of Classes 11th and 12th. The questions asked in the JEE Advanced exam can be based on two or more concepts as the exam tests the candidates’ problem-solving skills. On the other hand, direct formula-based questions are asked in JEE Main exam.
Q.7: Is JEE Advanced tougher than NEET?
Ans: Yes, JEE Advanced is tougher than NEET. JEE Advanced is considered to be the toughest exam in India.
Q.8: In which year was JEE Advanced the toughest?
Ans: JEE Advanced 2015 is considered to be the toughest of all the JEE Advanced exams conducted so far. Before JEE Advanced 2015, JEE of 2005 was considered the toughest of all time.
