BENGALURU, NOVEMBER 25: JEE Main 2020 registration for January session exam ended on October 10, 2019. A total of 9.34 lakh candidates have registered for JEE Main 2020 January exam as per the data released by the examination authority National Testing Agency (NTA). The JEE Main 2020 first phase examination has seen a marginal dip of as many as 7000 registration number as compared to that of last year. A total of 9.41 lakh candidates had applied for the JEE Main 2018 January session exam.
Based on the experts’ analysis, the overall registration in JEE Main 2020 has dropped due to the inclusion of the economically weaker section (EWS) category, which was introduced this year. A total of 81,413 candidates have registered under EWS category as per JEE Main 2020 registration data, which resulted in a decline of nearly 90,000 registration under the Open Category.
Moreover, if JEE Main 2020 registration official data are to be believed, the number of women applicants has increased as compared to last year. This year around 2.90 lakh women candidates are expected to take JEE Main 2020 January session as compared to 2.75 lakh female candidates, last year. The possible causal for the increase in the number of female applicants might be the IIT Council’s proposal to have at least 20% female students in their IIT 2020 batch.
Moreover, as per the data released by NTA, a total of 1.38 lakh candidates registered for B.Arch/B.Planning for the January session.
