Encouraging Application-Based Learning Through Diverse Content To Deliver Experiential Education

Experiential Education advocates various application-based activities in a community wherein there is interaction between learners and teachers, to construct knowledge and develop skills.

Experiential Education or hands-on learning, strongly supported by John Dewey, considered as the modern father of Experiential Education, is a teaching philosophy that advocates ‘learning by doing’. It requires learners to live in an environment that supports team spirit and interaction between the learners and the teachers. It advocates various application-based activities to construct knowledge and develop skills. It requires the following:

  1. Guided practice
  2. Exploring and discussing doubts
  3. Practice (effective and occupying)
  4. Writing reports/notes
  5. Implementing the outcomes
  6. Research and development – creating and improving standard operating procedures
  7. Evaluation through simulated or live situations i.e. practical evaluation and a discussion on reports/notes prepared by the learner.

Experiential Education engages students in a mentally inward, socially profound, operationally genuine, potentially enriching, and accelerated learning endeavour leading to unforgettable learning outcomes with the freedom to explore. The educator and student might encounter achievement, disappointment, experience, hazard taking, and vulnerability because the results of involvement can’t absolutely be anticipated. This pedagogy takes a learner beyond the theories, books, chalks, and dusters. It aims to create rational human beings or skilled experts who can truly address real-world problems.

Whenever learners/children take part in Experiential Education, they acquire:

  1. A more extensive perspective on the world and an enthusiasm for the local area,
  2. Knowledge into their abilities, interests, and qualities,
  3. The delight of helping with addressing local area needs,
  4. Freedom to work together with different associations and individuals,
  5. Positive expert practices and ranges of abilities,
  6. Superior leadership capabilities,
  7. Fearlessness and administrative abilities,
  8. Ability to take initiative.
